Taurus CT G2 Carbine

They debuted them at SHOT last year. This year's show is very soon and they still haven't produced a single one for sale to the public to my knowledge. If they ever make some for sale, I think it could do well because there are very few pistol caliber carbines on the market for a decent price.

They've been in the 2011 catalog practically all year.

They're as bad as Kel-Tec. Kel-Tec hyped their KSG at the beginning of last year and besides some videos, there are no KSGs.

In the software industry its called vaporware.

I like the way they look but I'm not sure I'd get one. I at least want to read about other's experience with them.

I hear about people sending their firearms back to Taurus multiple times and sometimes Taurus covers shipping and sometimes they don't.

I don't want to hassle with that... so I'll wait until the reviews start rolling in about the carbine.

Right now it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon...
 
I have two Taurus's myself so as for reliability I am pleased, but have heard Taurus is hit or miss to say the least. Just curious why they would put it on their website for so long and not actually release a product. Possible issues with production or maybe the thing looks good but only works as a paper weight?? Who knows.....
 
They are awfully heavy and expensive for pistol caliber carbines.

They weigh 8-9.5 pounds, and MSRP is what, around $700 or so?

They are semiauto versions of submachineguns, the Taurus MT G2 series. The MT G2 series are designed to be cheaper modernized replacements of the previous Taurus MT series, which are more Sig inspired. There is also a long barreled semiautomatic version of that, the CT 40, but they don't seem to have plans to import that.

The automatic version apparently version accepts AR-15 grips, and it's likely this version does too. Also, note the AR style safety.

If this weren't Taurus, you guys would be all over them. Hopefully, since they are based on more serious guns, they won't be terrible.
 
Why are they so heavy?

The Ruger PC9 weighed 6.4 lbs

The HK USC weighs 6 lbs without the magazine...

The Marlin Camp Carbine weighed 6.75 lbs and it had a solid wood stock.

I do like the looks of the Taurus...

I don't care for the ARs chambered for handgun calibers. I didn't care for the Beretta which only weighs 5.68 lb BTW. I don't care for the looks of the Hi-Point but even the Hi-Point only weighs 6.25 lbs.

Four extra pounds doesn't seem like that much, but you have to figure it does cut down on it's utility for situations where you have to decide if you want to lug it with you on a long hike or something.

Why does it weigh so much?

They do appear to have some extra styling crap on them. The grip around the magazine well and the style of stock stand out the most. I wouldn't add any optics to it. So, I would prefer it without any picatinny rails on it.

We shall see if they ever come to market. MSRP is around $700 which means real selling price would be around $550-$600.
 
I'd be interested if someone made one of the autoloading pistol caliber rifle/carbines in .357mag, .44mag or 10mm. Other than that, not much is gained in 9mm, .40s&w or .45acp.
 
Their catalog doesn't say if these are rated for +P or not,

But maybe they built it to handle .45 +P and that's where the weight is coming from?

Instead of changing the bolt / bolt carrier, they just change the springs for the 9mm.
 
Think I'll stick to my BCM for any carbine needs.

Sounds like theres already better options out there for a pistol carbine.

Count as far as what you hear about Taurus and their customer service.. its mostly true.

We send back a lot of Tauri and I hate dealing with their service. I'v gotten guns back that they didn't even repair anything on it. I sen't back a Judge public defender.. and a 1911 each 3 different times.

I have no faith in Taurus. If you get one that runs.. more power to you.. but if you ever have to deal with their CS.. and I do regularly at work.. They make you want to pull your hair out sometimes.

I ALMOST ordered one of thise 1911's to screw around with because they offer them to us for next to nothing on a pro staff order but I still can't bring myself to do it.
