Taurus CIA modle #850 $229 new

I havent actually tried one, but when I go to my local gunstore I always ask to see it. I have owned the Taurus .38 snubbie Ultralite, basically the same gun as the CIA. The Ultralite was a first rate gun. Shot point-o-aim right out of the box. All in all the CIA looks like a bargain to me.

I have the 850 CIA and it's one of my favorite carry guns. It shoots well, hits the 8 1/2" x 11" paper at 7 yards, although I doubt if it would ever be used at that distance, but I still practice at that distance. It's nice that it can be put in a coat pocket and if needed, be shot in the pocket without worrying about anything hanging up on clothing. I use the New Speer 135 grain +P and it seems to like them. You won't go wrong with the choice. Good luck in your
hunt.

$229 is barely wholesale on the gun, so from a purely financial standpoint, it's a good deal.

From a mechanical standpoint, I'm generally favorably impressed with Taurus revolvers, even if they are a little coarse compared to their spendier American competition. The new cylinder releases are goofy-looking, though. :)

I have one. I like it because I shoot it a whole lot better than S&W J frames. The shape of the grip fits me better and the trigger is easy to control in the one I have.

Yes that sounds like a good deal. I was very happy to get a NIB stainless 650 for $234 this year from my dealer. He said that Taurus had actually lowered the price of the CIA line. I couple of years ago I paid $269 for a blued CIA so it was quite a surprise to get the stainless for less money. Pretty good quality overall. The cylinder gap can be a little tight on some of these Taurus revolvers. My blued would bind when hot. So far the stainless has not had this problem, but I haven't shot it much. Visually it looks tight also.

Let me preface this post by saying I am NOT a gun snob.

With the disclaimer out of the way, I will tell you my experience so far with Taurus. I have owned my 650 CIA (.357 mag version of the 850) for about a month. It is presently at Taurus being repaired already  . For some reason, magnums will lock up the gun upon firing. What is odd is that .38 fires flawlessly. So you will probably not have the same problem with the 850. However, my experience has been less than thrilling so far, and I am not sure I will be able to use my gun for protection once it comes back (I have heard Taurus CS is not the greatest, and this has also been my experience so far) Hopefully your mileage will vary if you decide to buy the gun.
