Taurus 94 Understudy for SP101

I've been considering getting a .22 revolver for use as an understudy for my 2.25" .357 SP101. I have Hogue grips on the SP, so I really don't have issues with recoil with .38 / .357. I do, however, want something for target acquision and trigger action practice. 500 rounds of .22 Vs. 50 rounds of .38 / .357 for under $10.00 = a lot more "bang for the buck". Not to mention wear and tear on the SP (and me).

The Taurus M-94 seems to fit the bill. About the same size and weight (4" barrel) as the SP - and the new models appear to have grips similar to the Hogues I have on the SP. Here are some questions:

1. Is the Taurus durable enough for literally thousands and thousands of rounds of use? Not so much concerned about barrel / frame / cylinder as I am with internal lock works and other "trim" that may wear out prematurly.

2. 2" or 4" barrel? As an understudy, practical target distances will be less than 50 feet. The 2" would better approximate sight picture - but the 4" would better approximate weight and feel.

3. Any other recommended .22 revolvers out there for my intended use? The SP in .22 is much heavier and I believe can now only be had in a 4" barrel. Don't know much about S&W, but my impression is they are all larger and heavier. The Taurus is also less expensive than the these too.

Any advise is appreciated.

I had a 94 with a 2in barrel. I owned it for a year or so and put a least 2-3000 rounds through this gun without any problems. Only sold it because I had bought it for a pocket trail gun, but found that a Kel-Tec P-32 fit my needs better. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one, in fact I've been eyeing up a nice blued one with 4in barrel at one of the local shops $245NIB.
