Taurus 905 Instant Backup 9mm revolver

Has anyone handled and fired the Instant Backup version of the Taurus 905 9mm revolver? How well is it built? Accuracy? Mechanical functioning? Does it appear to be stout enough for long term use of standard 9mm rounds?

Don't know about instant backup but mine was instant pain.Didn't have a firm grip and the hammer came back and got me. Now that I'm healed will take it out tomorrow and try again had some friends shoot it and they liked it.If it bites me again it will be instant gone :) The grip is very small for my big hands went to a little bigger H :) ogue grip can now get all my fingers around the grip

I've had a 905 IB for about 3 weeks now. Have put approx. 400 rounds thru it and IMHO not too bad of a gun. The Cyl. measures a bit larger than the 850 CIA I have, the barrel is 1/4" shorter than the 850, the cylinder is not as long as the 850. Handles well for me. Took a few rounds to get the feel. The last time out going for the draw and first shot time. About 1.5 seconds from under a jacket and hitting the target at center mass. Now all this was at a distance of 10' to 20', which I beleive is what this gun was made for. Can be shot w/o the steller clips and the empty cases are not hard to get out with your fingernail. All in all I like it. Going to give it one more range time, try some of my SD ammo and clean it up and start using it. Good Luck in your quest.

size difference

For concealed purposes, is the gun smaller overall enough to make it worth buying over the standard 905 9mm or the model 85 .38 special? What is the actual length of the cylinder? Have you done any slow fire at 20' to see how tight a group you could get? Sounds like a nice setup.

Going to try to get to the range today. Will try at 20' slow fire and check out size. As for the size of the 905IB, I "think" it's a bit smaller than the 85 or CIA that I also have. The grip is a tad shorter, I'm guessing Taurus is calling this a I frame compared to a J frame. I called Taurus and talked to one of their reps about the size of the IB and she did not know "Jack" about the gun or it's size, so save your time if you were deciding to call. If i have time today, i'll try to go thru the measuring bit again. Length, height, width.

Just got back from the range and put another 100 or so rounds thru the 905IB. At distance of 10'-15' slow fire, real slow, DAO, grouped about 2", at 20' the group opened up to about 3". IMHO this gun is better at point shooting rather than target shooting. It is a very short barrel revolver. Here's the measurements: Cylinder length just a tad over 1 1/4", barrel length front end of the cylinder to the end of the barrel tad over 1 3/4", from the back of the gun where the hammer pivots to the bottom of the grip 3 3/4", width of cylinder a tad over 1 5/16", from the front end of the barrel to the fattest part of the back strap on the grip is 5 7/8" +/-.. I know the measurements are not scientific, but I hope they help you decide. Again, I have to say, that drawing and point shooting , I believe is more what this gun is made for.
