Taurus 905 experience?

Actual owners, please tell me about your experience with the 905. I've always shied away from Taurus due to everything I've read about their customer service but I'm really wanting a DA 9mm snubby and don't wanna pay the asking price for the Ruger/S&W.

Have you had any problems, what kind, did Taurus make it right?

I've had one for a little over a year now and have 2,000+ rounds thru it with not one problem with it. The clips are hard to get the empties out but I now use a 1/4 inch dowell 6 inches long into the empty shell and pull it right out. The gun is very accurate for a snubbie at 7 yards and I can even hit a 8 inch target at 15 yards pretty often.

I have been tempted to buy the Taurus 905 but I keep hearing that Charter Arms is coming out with their CARR in 9mm soon, and I've heard Chiappa is going to have a conversion kit for the Rhino for 9x19 (not 9mm IMI).

So I've been holding off.

There is a prety fair review of the 905 on YouTube:

My Taurus 905 has been an awsome revolver!! I also like how the 9mm fits right in between 38 and 357 as far as performance goes. You will need new moon clips as the Stellar clips from Taurus are not too good. I ordered some from Ranch products and they fit great and are much higher quality. I also oredered a moon clip holder from Delfatti leather that holds the loaded moon clip secure so no rounds can come out in your pocket or damage the clip it self. I like the combo I have in the 905 and accessories, and find it to be great for CC primary or a BUG. Good luck!!

As for Taurus guns in general, I had one older Taurus auto that liked to jam, but the 2 J frame sized snubbies I have had were good guns. And that is coming from a big S&W guy, I also like the idea of this revolver so that is why I have 8 Smiths and 1 Taurus. My other Taurus was an identical 357 mag, the 605. It also was good, but I didn't really have a use for it anymore, and my 905 was tighter and newer.

Does the 905 basically have a .38spl cylinder in it - as far as how long it is? __________________
Yep.

I never had any problems with my 905.
It was very enjoyable to shoot too.

Also, it still works without the moonclips but you have to manually eject the empty brass.

Bought one used for $235 and it's been a good little gun for the money. No problems whatsoever. The front sight is a bit hard to see with my poor old man's eyes, so my accuracy with the gun isn't all that great, but that's on me, not the gun, itself.

My brother bought a new one a while back but he hasn't shot it much. The shell's didn't go in quite right he had to do a litle dremel work to the cylinder holes or hole.

I'd buy one, only because I have about 4-5000 rounds of 9mm laying around sense I switched to a .38spl. I did get a RIA 1911gov 9mm to burn them up now.

I'm not a big fan of the company either, but who else makes a current 9mm snub? I could have bought a new one for about $329 OTD, I pasted do to lack of money.

Mine is a real good shooter, only problem I see is it is a handful. Not unmanageable but you know you have a hold of something. Yes it is chambered for 9mm, the moon clips are for ejection.

Reading this thread really tempted me to pick one up. I was really thinking about getting one, but I found out today that a guy is going to start importing the IGB Glock barrels so I'm stoked about that and have lost interest in a 9mm pistol for the time being. :D

Maybe when I get the 9mm revolver bug again Charter Arms will have theirs available.

I don't own a Taurus 905 but I do have a Taurus old school model 66 blued with half lug 6 1/2 inch barrel. I got it back in the early 90's for $169.00 because the sporting goods store I bought it at was going out of business. Anyway I had put probably close to 1,000 rounds through it and the ejector rod housing, spring and rod all came off in my hand when I went to eject a cylinder full of ammo. I called Taurus and told them what happened and they sent me a shipping label to send the weapon to their repair shop and had it back to me in two weeks. It has worked great since then. I cannot comment on Taurus products made now or their customer service either. My experience was in the early 90's when mullets ruled the world.

I like mine. I habitually shoot it without the moon clips and pluck the empties out with my fingers-never had a stuck case but the dowel trick would work in such an occurrence. Ironically, in a snubbie the 9 is ballistically NEARLY equal to the .357 mag but much quieter.

how does 9mm in a snubnose compare to the 327 federal? im just curious because the 327 is supposed to give near 357 power, but most of the articles when it was introduced barely mentioned more then 400 foot pounds, wich is on par with standard 9mm.

on the other hand, just how much room is there between the cylinder face and the base of the loaded rounds? have a nice anti moon clip idea from the pictures.
