Taurus 85UL - was it always +P rated?

I know there are many threads on this +P subject, but I have a very specific question.

Was the Taurus 85 UltraLight originally rated 38 special, until a point in time when it was +P rated? If so, what year was that?

And why it keeps saying "38 special" in the barrel?....and in the manual? Is it because this +P rating means that it is only capable of just occasional handling of +P ammo?

Thanks

While shooting "+P" loads in that gun will probably not cause it to undergo violent rapid disassembly it will seriously shorten the service life of the gun and will do really bad things to your wrist. Even if the recoil doesn't "bother" you now when you get older you will wish you had stuck to standard loads. I learned these things the hard way. Any percieved advantage you believe "+P" ammo may give you is not worth it. Trust me. A standard .38 Spl load will serve you quite well if you can place it where it needs to go. People have been killing each other for many years with just a .38 Spl. +P out of a short revolver is nothing but snake oil marketing BS. Don't buy into it. Practice with standard loads until you can drill the center out of a target and you will have all you will ever need.

Thanks drail. I am aware of the subject you are talking about. I am interested in knowing some very specific aspects, as per my questions above.

The Taurus® Mdl 85UL 38 Special was introduced in 1997. It has been +P capable from the get go. Shoot all the 38 Special+P ammunition you want. I have a 2007 Mdl 85SS2UL and have shot thousands of rounds of +P with no problems except for excessive recoil. My carry load is the Buffalo Bore® Standard Pressure 158gr LSWCHCGC. It has the energy and power of a +P load without the excessive recoil and muzzle blast.
