Requesting range report on Taurus 850 Titanium.
Available used in good condition at local pawnshop for $300.

This is the one Taurus product I have ever fired that I cannot recomend. I had one for a short while and it had the troubling habit of unlocking the cylinder when fired with the heavier self defense loads on the market. I would fire a round and the cylinder would unlock so it could turn freely to the next notch. I got rid of it in quick order.

That said, Taurus has always fixed any problems with their guns and may have worked this out if it was not an isolated incident.

Good luck!

Well, I've had one about 6 months and like it VERY much! Light, easy to carry, goes "bang" every time I pull the trigger and no problems. It is even suprisingly accurate.

The trigger can be improved by some new springs.

So, a different opinion and experience. FYI - $300 is a pretty good price too.

My response is not directly on point to your question. But here it is nonetheless! I own a stainless 650, a stainless 651 and a titanium 651, all of them manufactured in 2004. The fit, finish and reliability of all of them has been superb. Each one has about 300 rounds or so through them so far, and I have had no failures to fire.

If it was in good shape and passed my visual and functional inspection, I would buy it for $ 300. I would be thrilled if Taurus made a 650 in titanium.

Just wanted to clarify:

Although my experience with that particular Taurus was not good, I am sure Taurus would have made it right if I had been patient with them. They have provided me with great customer service in the past and I would not hesitate to own another of their products in the future. Just had a rough time with that particular gun.

OK
I am going to get it this christmas.
The pawn shop owner pulled it from the shelf and is holding it for me with no down payment. Nice guy.
I am not planning on getting any high powered ammo for it.
Whats wrong with walmart white box hollow points?
I can only hope that I will not have the same problem that tom had.

I dont think that Titanium is strong enough for .357 magnum.
IMHO .38 special is just right for self defence.
I worry about overpenetration a lot.
Thanks for the input! :)
