Taurus 85 owners?

Hello folks, I can now carry concealed on the job, and was looking into one of those Taurus 85 Ultra-Lights. It would have to be well concealed and very light. At 14 oz, a good choice for front pocket carry, or should I just go for a P32? Thanks for your input.

Stephen,
I told my wife that I'd buy her any pistol that she liked and would enjoy practicing with. She chose a Taurus Total Ti. It's a great pistol. I own a P-32. The P-32 is a great pistol too, but the Taurus has a LOT more punch. I think you'll like the Taurus. I like hers so much that I'm thinking of getting one for myself. (Can't carry the Glock 27 ALL the time! :))

I and my wife both have M85's. They are our "deep carry because we're going to the no guns allowed place" pistols. If you don't wear tight fitting pants, then pocket carry is cool. Get a good pocket holster though.

Thanks folks, I might just go for the taurus as it seems perfect for "at work" (perfectly legal unless the clients' buildings forbid firearms) The 85 would have to be lighter and smaller than my SP101 snubby, and I believe it fits these requirements. A nice little 38, and Taurus quality is definitely up there.

I recently purchased a Taurus Model 85 Undercover Ultra-Lite Titanium snubbie revolver (see [Link to invalid post]) with the concealed hammer and I've been very happy with it. Even though it's slightly larger than my Kahr MK9, it's only about half the weight and more comfortable to carry around all day. I still prefer the greater firepower (seven 9mm's compared to five .38 specials) of the MK9 but for in & around the house and short trips around the neighborhood or to family members' homes, the 85 is perfectly suited and I've been very happy with it. By the way, I should mention that I also have the all-steel in stainless model which I keep in my top desk drawer (within a simplex lock-type security box to keep it secure from unauthorized access but also within ready reach) and I've been pretty happy with that as well.

I recently purchased a SS model 85. So far I'm very happy with it. Very decent price, nice trigger (almost too light when firing single action), and very accurate. A buddy of mine that I shoot with regularly has a Colt DS II. In my opinion my 85 compares very favorably to his plus its rated for +P. As I've posted before, I think Taurus makes very nice guns for very reasonable prices. Also the new Taurus revolvers now how the longer ejection rod, and yoke detent lock up. I think the M85 would be a good choice for your needs. It fits easily into the pocket, but get a good pocket holster.

I have had a bad experience with the titanium 85. It is back to the factory for the second time presently. They have had problems with the cylinder lock spring and cylinder clearance. I would suggest that if you get a Taurus, play it safe and don't get it off the Internet. Handle and dry fire the thing quite a bit to make sure it cycles well. Get it from a reputable dealer in case it needs to got back to the factory so the dealer pays for shipping. I have purchased seven Taurus revolvers in eight months. Five of them had to be sent back, one of them twice.

Just my two cents.

Yes.
I agree with e'ville. Support your local dealer by getting your new 85 from him. It's always best to "handle" the new pistol you are considering. The Ti 85's come in several colors. We looked and handled all models before she selected the matte spectrum blue. I kinda like the stealth gray myself. :)

I'll be shopping around for one at the show tomorrow, and will definitely handle it before buying. I like the stealth gray one best, and will load some glaser rounds in it for carry. I've got to get this gun buying under control. A few years back, I thought 3 would be more than enough. I'll have 8 times that number with the new taurus.

I've had a stainless Taurus 85 for several years. It mainly stays in my nightstand, but I also like to put it on my hip when I'm camping, hunting or hiking with a couple of shotshells (for snakes) and three hollowpoints. It's so light and short that I don't even know it's there. (I no longer like to carry most handguns on my hip, prefering a shoulder holster for both comfort and balance.) Being stainless, it's almost maintenance free. I like it!

I should never read these kind of posts! ;)

called my dealer this pm for a price check, how good or bad is $415 for the titanium model?

bk40, that price sounds about right as that's around what I paid for mine.

StephenT, (3x8=24). You're starting to sound a little like me. My excuse is that I use to live up north in a very restrictive state where one gun a year was the norm and getting a permit to purchase one was extremely difficult. Now that I live in the free'er south, I sort of went crazy my first year here. Don't have as many as you but I'm quickly on my way.

Regards, FUD.

FUD, same excuse here. I lived in NYC before moving to TX, and though I did own a gun then, I couldn't ever shoot it (forget about getting caught carrying in NYC!). TX is definitely the right part of the country for this hobby, and no more state/city income taxes either. Actually, 2 of my guns are black powder, so these don't "really" count as guns. Might as well get all the guns you'll ever need sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the price check FUD.

StephenT,

southern' livin is grand, yes? I noticed you're a fine law abiding citizen faithfully obeying the 1 gun per month law! :D
