I have a Taurus 85, older model with wood grips. I get light primer strikes in DA mode. The gun fires flawlessly in SA mode. Someone told me that it may just need a good cleaning. I broke it down cleaned it with gun scrubber and relubed everything. It helped, but im still getting some light primer strikes. Also i noticed if i snatch the trigger in DA mode it fires most of the time, but wont fire if I just squeeze the trigger. Any ideas? -- Thanks GusGus

Does it have the transfer bar safety? I had a similar problem with a newer one and it turned out to be a poorly machined transfer bar. When the trigger is pulled back the transfer bar comes up between the hammer and the firing pin; in my case when the trigger broke, the bar wasn't quite high enough to reliably set off the round. Slapping or snatching the trigger back quickly made it go bang every time, but it also made it hard to shoot accurately.

Taurus fixed it up for me but I had to send it back to them.

I got the gun used and yes it has the transfer bar safety. From what i understand the warranty is for the life of the gun not the owner. Can i just send it back under my name and it be covered under warranty? Ive never had to send one back to the manufacturer.

It's lifetime as long it says Taurus USA on it, they don't care how many owners it's had. I'd call them first to verify the shipping address, and include a note describing the problem as well as you can. You'll have to ship it FedEx next day I believe.
