First I want to say hi I am new to this forum. I was on the Taurus site and saw a 3 in model 85 and was wondering if any on has any info to them? I have had alot of pepole tell me that Taurus does not make a 3 in. revolver. Thanks.

I saw a used 3 inch in the case at the gun store. Aside from the extra inch there is no difference from the 2 inch which I have. The only problem might be holster selection. The Taurus 85 is a great buy.

First, Welcome to TFL... :D :D

Taurus does make a 3" in the 85 model, it's the 85SS3 .38Spl. +p. I guess the question is, Taurus is in transition with their new product line, and is it still available???

Like jvlip3, I own, and regularly shoot the Taurus 85 Ultra-Lite which is a really nice little gun. I throw it in a pocket holster, and it follows me everywhere during lazy days, and warm days...

I'm going looking for one tomorrow. It may be the only wheelie Taurus will make in 3" for some time.... :)

Good Luck

Ok I just looked at the Taurus website and there it is. It reminds me of a SP101 3 inch I bought as a compromise years ago. I wanted a CCW revolver but not a snub. It also had to be 357 MAG. But it went bye bye in favor of my all steel 85. The 3 inch barrel made it difficult to carry in a pocket and it also gives and adversary something to grab hold of- keep in mind that BGs are ambush predators. With a 2 inch, BGs hand will be over the end of the muzzle waiting to catch a bullet. I have already mentioned holsters- most of them are for 2 inch 85s. And the extra inch won't offer too much more velocity. Take a look at it's intended mission and go from there. I hope this helps but the choice is yours. You can't go wrong with the 85 series.

I have a 3 inch 85 and prefer it over my 2 inchers.
that extra inch gives me a little more sight plane for my old eyes to fix on.
Given the probable application it is probably not that big a deal but I enjoy range shooting with it more.

Holsters are hard to find. I had to settle for an open bottomed model with some barrel sticking out

Switching to 85CH type grips helps with the concealability

Belt slides and open ended holsters- Make sure you use the retention straps on these. If the holster is worn behind the hip it is quite possible for you to push the gun out of the holster because of the barrel sticking out when you assume a sitting position. I've seen a LEO do this at a local diner with his Glock while off duty.

Hey guys! I have a Taurus 3" 85 in stainless steel. It is a very nice revolver. I did not like the grips that came on it. They were rubber. My buddy had bought a Taurus .22 revolver and it had the wooden, checkered grips. We traded. My gun really looks good with those grips! But, as I am typing, it is lying here on the desk in front of me wearing hard rubber boot grips. Very ugly, but more concealable. I will try to take a pick of it in the wood grips for you all. By the way, my revolver doesn't have that stupid lock in the back of the hammer. It is rated for +p.
