Taurus 445 as a Farm Gun?

Hello. I usually deal more with 1911s than revolvers. However, I need something a little more durable and cheaper for a "knock around" gun for use on snakes and varmints(four and much less likely two legged, but it IS prudent to be prepared, right?). Now, I recognize a 4" 357 would probably be the best choice, but I like to be different. In addition, this gun would probably be carried a few years down the road(once I can get a permit). Would the Taurus snubby work in this role? Thanks.

PKN; Check out the write-up on the new 445 on www.taurususa.com. I think it would be a fine gun for your purpose. I'd stay with the all steel version. It will be cheaper and hold down recoil alittle bit better. I've got a Taurus 617 (7-shot 357 mag snubbie) and I like it alot. The bluing on it is outstanding and the trigger pull is smoother than a S&W mod 19 I had once. Personally, I like the new line of Taurus revolvers. Good Luck, J. Parker

I have to agree and disagree with J Parker. I agree with his support of Taurus revolvers, but I'd like to suggest the Titanium line...I have one in .45 Colt and I love it, and my mom has the .357 Mag version (617T). I like to shoot it with .357s, but my mom only uses .38's in it. I don't think that the recoil is awful at all, but the weight savings is worth it.

I agree with frontsight. The new Titanium revolvers are very nice. You just have to ask yourself if you need a really light gun. If it's not for deep concealment or packing it for a long, long time I'd go with the steel guns. I carry my Taurus 617 (28oz I think) in my fanny pack when I go fishing. I don't even notice it. You might even consider the 617 line. Seven shots of 357 mag in a fairly small package. I'm a big fan of the 357 magnum. Versatility to the max. Just my thoughts, J. Parker
