Taurus 44 magnums

Can someone comment on the Taurus model 44SS6 (6.5" stainless, here) vs. the model 444SS6 Raging Bull (6.5" stainless, here)? They look almost identical except for the billboard on the side of the RB. The RB also weighs one ounce more. I know they make even larger calibers availble on the RB frame; does that imply it's stronger? (How much stronger can it be if it's only one ounce heavier?)

Similarly, can anyone comment on the velocity loss of a 4" ported barrel vs. the 6.5" ported barrel on either of the above guns? Am I only looking at losing 50-75 fps? How about energy loss?

Thanks in advance,

My only comment is someone gave me a box of .44MAG rounds and I have no gun to fire them out of!!
Sooo, I guess I want one!! :D

I have the Taurus model 44 in blue and I have two raging bulls, one in 454 and one in 45 colt. The model 44 is a lot more like a Smith model 29 with a square frame and a full lug under the barrel. The cylinder unlocks by just pushing the release and with all the weight and porting its quite comfortable with factory 44 Mag ammo. The Raging Bulls have a larger frame but the grip area is reduced so the grips have more give in them. The Raging Bulls also have a lock on the crane as well as the cylinder release near the hammer. To unlock the Raging Bull requires you to manipulate both locks at the same time and push the cylinder and crane out to reload. Its not terribly difficult but you cannot do a speedy reload with the Raging Bull. The Raging Bulls main good point is that the grips have a tremendous amount of give in them so even the most powerful 44 Mag loads will be amazingly easy to handle. I would recommend that you handle an example of each before you make up your mind.
