I have a Taurus 44 mag
with a 6.1/2 ported barrel
I use a 180 gr bullet
I have about 50 rounds fired
I can't seem to hold a good pattern
I use sand bags for a good rest
even did a bore sight set up
what could be wrong

Before anyone starts Taurus bashing, here are some things I always consider when someone has accuracy problems with a .44 Magnum.

1. How much handgun shooting experience have you had?
2. Are your loads factory or reloads? If the latter, who loaded them? How much reloading experience has the reloader had?
3. How do you use your sandbag rest? You should rest your wrists on the bags, without letting the gun touch the bags or the bench.
4. What kind of ear/eye protection are you using? How much are you affected by the blast and noise?

Some folks start off in shooting with a large, powerful gun, react to the blast and recoil by developing a bad flinch, then claim the gun is inaccurate. I suggest you let someone else, perhaps a more experienced shooter, try the gun and see what results he gets.

Ask a friend who is proficient with a handgun to shoot it from the bench in SA mode. If (s)he does well, then you must practice; preferably with a smaller and more affordable caliber.

i have not done bench rest shooting with my 4", 44 mag taurus model 44 but it as least as accurate as my 7 1/2" ruger redhawk 44mag.
i can hit 2 lt pop bottles at 50 yards off hand with my taurus model 44, 44 mag more easily than with the redhawk. i normaly shoot 240 ge hp factory ammo, no reloads. my taurus 4" model 44 is my go to trail gun.

Tough gun to shoot.

I've been shooting my eight inch Taurus 44 mag for several years now. Have a scope on mine. Have killed whitetail with it, but only at less than 25 yards. I've shot a lot of different ammo and am still experimenting with different hand loads. At 25 yards my best group of six is six inches and I have to really "work" to get that. Usually my groups are about eight inches. At ten yards I do a lot better. It's a huge hunk of gun. Fun to shoot and even a little bit scary to shoot. One of my shooting buddies refers to it as the "devil" gun.

Oh sure. I have heard all kinds of .44 Magnum, non taurus, accuracy problems in the past 30 years. I just can't remember when.
