TAURUS .40 REVOLVER

A few months ago I was reading a gun rag, when I noticed a letter to the editor asking why no one made a revolver in .40 S&W. I really didn't care, because I don't care much for the forty, but yesterday I noticed that Taurus has now got one. All you forty lovers may want to check it out! ANYONE here want one?

For a compact 5 shot revolver I'd go with a .357 Magnum over a 40 S&W especially one that requires moon clips.

Now if I were in the market for a large frame revolver in 40 S&W I'd go with the S&W 610. Since it requires moon clips you can load it with both 10mm and 40 S&W. I handled one at a gun show awhile back and its action puts any Taurus to shame (& I own three of them).

I see it, but don't really care for it. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I don't see myself ever using hal or full moon clips to hold my rounds... and I also don't like the grips they put on that thing.

it's not for me,

Would make some sense in a short barrel revolver... full moons would aid in rapid reloads, and be easy to carry...

interesting...

I would think full moon clips would get damaged/bent if you carried concealed reloads...

I found it kind of funny that Taurus didn't come out with a 9mm revolver first. My friend has a Ruger that works great.... I guess they figured that more LEOS carry the forty. I agree with JBP, I'll stick with a 5 shot .357 mag thanks.

I'm kinda hoping they come out with it in .45ACP. .40 is ok I'm sure but it's not a round I'm shooting currently.

I think it has a lot of merit for a CC gun. The big bore is appealing in the short barrel since you aren't as dependant on expansion form that stubby tube for stopping power and, IMO at least, .45 recoil is not that bad. More pleasant than the .357 mag's I normaly shoot in a snub revolver anyway.

Plus, the moon clips allow a faster reload and unload than speedloaders do. When you get home at night too it's easier to drop a loaded moon clip and then re-insert it in the morning than it is to do so with loose rounds. Not a big deal I realize but it is a convenience issue.

And, a moon clip of stubby .45ACP rounds is smaller and flatter to carry than a speedloader of .44 Special or .45 Colt like with the other Taurus big bore snubbys. I suppose there is some chance of the clips getting bent in your pocket or what not but, assuming the clips are well made (like the 9mm ones for the Ruger SP-101 or S&W 940), it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Finally for the LEO who wants the reliability of a revolver as a backup or off duty gun the new Taurus allows him the option of sticking with a gun chambered for the same round as his service pistol.

I like the idea personally and if they do come out with a .45ACP version I'll probably jump on it. I've been looking for a big bore snub for a while now but just haven't found the right one. That .40 is close but not quite it yet :)

anyone know where i can see a pic of this .40S&W revovler on the net? i have not found that many problems with my full moon clip revolvers (S&W 610 x2 and a 940). they r faster to reload than my service revolver and the moons clips r relatively stiff so they don't bend easilly. as for the .40S&W...i wish they would make it in 10mm...but i'm biased to the 10mm... :D

the ONLY reason for this revolver is to backup a person using a full size .40 S&W semi-auto. why would you want a chunky big ass revolver when there are small flat backups in .40 S&W like the AMT DAO or the Kahr MK40? the titanium model may be lighter but it's still a CHUNK of thick metal with STICKY grips that will be hard at best to conceal.

Beleive it or not some of us actually PREFER a revolver to an auto pistol! I've shot auto's for years but in the past couple I've really come back to wheelguns. I just like them better, shoot them better and am comfortable with them. Full moon clips and a big bore round just make the revolver choice more appealing in my eyes. Personally though, I'm holding ot to see if they make a .45ACP version.

Plus, the AMT Backups just don't do it for me at all. Kinda clunky IMO ( a matter of perspective obviously) and the trigger pull is just wretched; the worst I've ever seen. I just don't trust the AMT. I know some are OK but I've seen a lot of reliability issues with the .380's and that's make me think twice about the bigger ones.

The Kahr is OK and my MK-9 shot excellent but it just didn't do much for me. I found myself carrying the SP-101 a lot more and teh Kahr sat at home in the safe.

Size and weight aren't the only factors in choosing a carry gun. They're certainly part of the equation but far from all of it.

I still carry auto's occasionally (my PPK or my Keltec P-32 and once in a great while my Kimber 1911) but generally I'm comfortable with a wheelgun. I dunno, I don't find a 2" revolver, either J or K frame sized, all that hard to carry and conceal. The "bulk" just doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

I do agree about the grips though, I really don't like those new Taurus grips at all, not in looks, size or feel. I'm sure they work just fine but I'd rather put on somthing like an Uncle Mikes Boot Grip or an Eagle Secret Service grip if it would take them.
