I'm looking to get a wheel gun, a Tauras 617, 7 shot .357Mag.

Anybody have good things to say about it?

Bad things?

Any suggestions of guns that are in the same class in terms of price and function?

Taurus is giving a free NRA membership with any new gun purchase. :-)

If your going to play with this gun anyone will do. But if this is for serious use such as home protection or self defense for your family and/or yourself, do yourself a favor and take a serious, serious look at the S & W 686P. More reliable, more dependable, more accurate than a that Taurus your talking about. And the extra money or political issue, once again, review YOUR REASONS for the purchase.

twoblink; I got one though Davidson's. It was like $240.00. For that kind of money I got a GREAT gun. I wanted a gun for my medium fanny pack and it fits perfect. It's certainly packable. It's my fishin' gun. It's relatively small, seven shots, and the nicest bluing job I've seen on such a gun. The trigger pull really surprised me! Nicer than a S&W mod 19 I once had. Proloads 125gr. Tactical Lites are very controllable. I shot 158gr. softpoints out in the woods and they kinda' hurt but were controllable. I'm happy with mine. Good Luck, J. Parker

Do you remember the Clint Eastwood line "I know, you're asking youself, was that 5 shots or 6? Well, do you feel lucky, punk?" Or something really close to that...

After watching that, I've ALWAYS wanted a 7 or 8 shot wheel gun. So if a thief ever broke in and counted 6 shots, I still got one more in the barrel...

S&W doesn't seem to have any 7 shots in a compact frame. I figured that would probably become my "hiking and trailing" gun....

I have heard that Taurus has made huge strides in quality, yes?

Thanks.

I've owned and own several Taurui and I've been please with ALL of the revolvers. I can't imagine supporting S&W after the sellout. Taurus is taking the exact opposite stance to gun control.
