Well, he first doused himself with gasoline; but the thread title is a grabber, ain't it?

That said, doesn't it stand to reason that the cops should know that "some" -- as stated in the story -- tasers emit sparks before they shot one an a guy who was doused in gas?

Man bursts into flames after being shot by a taser gun
Last updated at 13:56pm on 20th June 2007

Police are investigating the firey death of a man who burst into flames after dousing himself in petrol and then being shot with a taser gun.

Officers used the gun after the man had poured gasoline over himself.

Juan Flores Lopez, 47, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Texas.

Police initially used pepper spray when they tried to take Lopez into custody. Then they used the Taser. Some stun guns emit an electric spark when they deliver the jolt of electricity.

The Texas Rangers were also investigating whether a lighter that was on the porch could have contributed to the fire.

"We don't know what ignited the fire," police said.

No one else was injured in the confrontation. It was unclear whether Lopez had been charged with anything.

Two of his sons who live nearby said their father had been threatening for months to burn himself and his house. His wife was seeking a divorce and he did not want to have to leave the house, the sons said.

that title is almost as hilarious as my favorite "14 die at Turkish kite flying festival"

No sympathy, the guy doused himself with gas. Darwin award winner candidate!

Maybe he thought he was Johnny Storm and said "Flame on!" after which the only words he could think of to say were "Holy S---!"

Well, I feel bad for the guy, as he was obviously a serious mental case. It's not like he could help that.

As for the Taser use, I guess they meant well if they were trying to stop a suicide. It's too bad they didn't have a beanbag shotgun round handy and use that instead.

***Well duh. The police saw the man douse himself with gasoline, then used a taser which emits sparks, and they can't figure out what caused the fire?

First the article calls it a "taser gun", then they they just call it a "gun". Weird.

Are the British so squeamish now that they don't even see the difference between a taser and a firearm?

Honestly, guys. We shouldn't joke about someone else's misfortune. That sort of thing just burns me up. (Ba-dum-bum).
