I really want a Leup Mk4 for my .308, but I won't be spending $1k on a weapon I already have anytime soon. I'm considering a Tasco "Super Sniper"(ouch, that hurt to say)

Seeking positive and negative feedback on this scope.

Thanks

A nice scope........

I bought a SS scope a couple of months ago and I must say I am very pleased! I mounted it on my M1A along with the SA 3rd. generation mount. The scope is very solid and well constructed. The reticle (which is etched into the glass) is clear and gathers ample light. I got it from http://www.swfa.com for $299. You would be hard pressed to find a better scope for this price. BTW, If you go to the swfa website, you will find links to various reviews about this particular scope.

Best of luck!

kgs.

Michael-

It's on 2 boards, and, AS REFERENCED IN THIS POST, both here and gear.

Just looking for all the input I can find, as, last time I purchased a scope, I did not have the benefit of reaching so wide an audience. Given the depressed secondary market for scopes, I don't want to purchase something I'll regret.

Citadel, As I look around the room I see 18 Leupolds a Khales ZF-84, Leatherwood ART II, Weaver K-10, Springfield Govt. and 3 Tascos
One of the Tasco scopes came on the Colt Delta H-Bar "no way to break up that set" one is a Model 708 Target

and the other is your SS. One of the Leupolds is your beloved MK 4. While I haven't gotten my a88 in the grass with the SS it seems to me a good scope. I have shot through by bro in laws on several trips to our range and it worked very well. The one I purchased is on an unfinished project right now. I was impressed enough to get one.

I have the SS 10x42 M and am very happy with it. For my purposes it's every bit as good as the Leupold for a lot less money. If you get one, you may want to consider the 'M' model. These were originally built for a military contract and have the side focus knob. Be sure to get the later version that has the front lens recessed into the scope body. The original models had the lens mounted right at the end of the body and were easy to scratch.

Good scope!!!

I have one, and have a couple of friends that also have them mounted on 308 rifles. Don't buy the side focus model, is more expensive and I've heard some reports of problems with them.
The service is pretty good, I stupidly banged mine a lot with ejected shells from my M1A and send it to repairs, no problems and fast.
The only thing I would like them to improve is to have a bit more positive clicks, but they do track well.

Take a look at Steve's thread on this same topic; it's on page 2 ("Just Got My Tasco SS Scope"). Some really good feedback there, too.

Yeah...look at my thread.

Oh, that could be taken in a lot a bad ways! Anyway, I am way impressed with the outside quality of mine. I won't be able to test the innards 'till I get my M1A back, but after reading so much about it, and talking to Chris at SWFA, I really believe that it'll be a good one.
