Tarus Tracker I Think?

I was just given a Tarus Revolver. The box is marked 44KL SS Comp and the barrel has a serial number then 44 Mag. It is a 4" barrel stainless steal with target sights and rubber grips. The cylinder holds six rounds.

I will post Pics tonight when I get home.

My question is.......Is this a tracker and if so should I keep it or do away with it because it is lowly tarus?

I could use a Bear pistol and was thinking of getting a 44 Mag revolver for that reason and to possibly hunt with.

I hear hit or miss things regarding Tarus revolvers. I am leaning towards keeping it and shooting Mid range 44 mag with it which would be way more potent on a bear than my next largest pistol A Glock 23 with a .357 sig G32 barrel.

What do you guys think?

if it was gave to you keep it and shoot it, it may last you for years and if it breaks after a month of shooting all you are out is the price of ammo :rolleyes: dont expect it to be fabulous just enjoy it for what it is :D
 
Keep it. They typically aren't worth much as a trade or a straight up sale.

I'm not fan of Taurus but they do make some guns that hold up well and are pretty good shooters. If you are lucky, you might have ended up with a decent gun. Try it and find out. If its junk, and it may very well be, it didn't cost you a thing but your time.
 
I sell it and get the Taurus tracker in 22lr, or buy a GP 100.

Please check and see how much cylinder sloop/play there is, unload it and shine a flashlight look down barrel and see how much the chamers move off line the barrel when you jiggle cylinder.

Hey, I'll give you $50 for it. :D

(Bud of mine just aquired a .44 Tracker. It's curious that you say your's is a 6 shot. This one's a 5 shot. The barrel is ported, and counterbored past the porting. In handling it, it seems sound.)

Remember the old bit about gift horses? Why were you given the gun? Out of love and/or frendship or because the previous owner wanted to get rid of it?

In spite of many reported problems, most Taurus guns are OK and will serve well; the price is usually quite good, though not many folks are lucky enough to have one given to them. But some do have problems, so check the gun over well and shoot it enough to gain confidence in it. If you reach that point, then it certainly should be adequate for your intended purpose.

I have a M44SS6 and it is a very good, very accurate pistol.

The usual suspects will be along to tell you how badly your pistol sucks because it is a Taurus.

Shoot it. If you like it, you'll learn to ignore them, too.
 
How did you get a free gun?

That looks to be around 1990+2000 year mfg, though it looks more like the model 94 based model, because of the grips.

It was left to me.

The above is the closest gun on their current site to what I have. I included that pic so if anyone has anything to add to the merrits of this gun in particular I would be interested.

I've had good luck with my Taurus PT 145. I believe Taurus make excellent pistols and revolvers for the price. I would ask you to consider the design was for a compact, powerful, lightweight revolver. If you aim to shoot it often, use mid-range loads.
 
Shot it today

It didnt blow up or anything. My groups were very reasonable in da and sa with a new gun. Recoile wasn't bad at all.
 
I'm glad it wasn't a Tracker. The medium frame 44s seem to have more problems. My 44 Tracker was a dud, but my brother had the full size 44 like yours and never had a problem.
 
Being a Taurus it'll most likely be good or bad. Shoot it and if it works keep it and enjoy it if it's a dud get rid of it. It may be great.
