Target .22: factory or custom?

I'm in the market for a target Ruger 10-22. I've handled but not shot a stainless factory Ruger 10-22T, and pondered whether I should get the factory target model, a "custom" rifle such as those found at www.gunsmoke.com, or the basic, plain-jane model and customize it myself. I ain't much of a gunsmith, but can field strip one and put it back together if given enough time. What shoots the best, and is the best value for the money? I want wood stocks. Gracias.

Had wanted to get a 10/22T in the past to compare with my other 10/22s but now don't think it will be worth it. Have two customized outside, two customized myself, one simply dropped into a plastic stock, and one spare for future work.

Customizing by yourself is actually really simple. There are a ton of parts that drop in. If you want to save a little money, you can even do some simple grinding and Dremel tooling without breaking a sweat.
