Tapping/threading Mossberg 500 for scope base

Has anyone had an older Mossberg 500 tapped for a scope base? I have one built in the late 80's that I'd like to have tapped for a regular aluminum weaver rail, but the fact that it's an aluminum receiver has me a little concerned about the screws holding properly.
I understand the newer models are tapped and threaded from the factory; did Mossberg change the receiver in order to do that?

Incidentally, I'm not considering a saddle mount since I already have a side saddle on it, and I'm not getting a cantilevered barrel since I already have an iron sighted rifled barrel. My intention was to equip it with a low powered scope or red dot and quick release rings that can be used for turkey, deer, coyotes, etc.

thanks!

The new Mossbergs come D&Ted and are still aluminum. IIRC, they use size 8 threads and are no problem as long as you don't overtighten them.

The real issue is that Mossberg barrels, like most removable shotgun barrels, don't fit all that tightly in the receiver and have a tendency to move around a bit when fired. Not a big deal when shooting shot, not that great when shooting slugs. That's why Mossberg slug barrels have a cantilevered mount on the barrel itself.
