Tank graveyards around the world....

Alot of Soviet Block equipment. Tell you something about our equipment. Mostly, it tells about our leadership and war fighters.

Thanks alot! Some really good reference photos on that site. I have always been a fan of soviet armor.

It seems a real shame to let all those just sit there and go to waste.
Maybe someone could invent a new form of motorsport - tank racing.
Just a thought.

Interesting topic. I've always thought tanks were way cool. I would love to be an observer when those guys go out for "a day at the range"! I do wonder, however, if the mods will let this one stay open...

I would love to take one in to the scrap yard :) just to see their faces. A friend of mine drove them tanks in the army for a long time. He is out now and old like me :) but the pics he has...

There's still a lot of tanks on Aberdeen Proving Ground in the big yard of the former US Army Ordnance Museum. Unfortunately the museum is closed, moving to Fort Lee. It was a really cool place while it was open, lots of firearms on display. Now they are gradually moving those tanks and artillery pieces. Anzio Annie is gone, but the big 16 inch shore gun is still in place. You can still visit and see a lot of tanks and other old military equipment, and you can get a visitor pass at the 715 gate.

If they want to clean up those hulks, just take them to Korea and within 6 weeks they will all be cut up and made into Hundai cars and trinkets for sale to tourists. Still it's a shame thay can't be salvaged for the historical value. Too many guns, trucks, and tanks have just been left to rust away, because they are considered "too dangerous" to be left in the hands of mere civilians.

Te Anau, . . . it may be nothing, . . . not sure, . . . but when I tried to view the photos, . . . my anti-virus went off on several of the first 6 or 7 pictures.

I got off there, . . . even though my software said it contained the threat, . . . I don't need that worry.

May God bless,
Dwight

As we know the Soviets were packrats with military equipment both domestic and captured, (look at the Mosins and captured Mausers on the market), I have one request - I wanna see Uncle Joes' underground parking garage. Might there be some nice maintained examples of some rare armor.

My apologies if anyone had issues.I use Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection, and free Zone Alarm for my firewall and no warnings were issued when I was at the above link.

CLC, I'm talking about the rare and unusual..how about a King Tiger with the Porsche turret or a Sturmgtiger, maybe even the legendary third Maus? They had a habit of keeping captured material in working order...

Sign away your life for 4 years to uncle Sam and get deployed to Afghanistan. It's a country sized graveyard for soviet tanks. It's a bit eerie seeing busted up tanks from wars past..

If we had some of those in the South we would probably have some of them running. We could put paint them orange and put a big 1 on the side.
