Is there a tang sight that would not require drilling my trusty old 1890. It is a takedown model (model 3 I think) in 22 WRF. I checked with Brownells and the ones they offer would require drilling and tapping new holes in the tang. I don't think I want to do that to this old rifle that is in such good condition. It is unusually accurate, but the old eyes won't let me take advantage of that. Thanks

AFAIK, most rifle of that vintage were factory D/T'd with the 2nd screw (probably plugged with a headless screw), just ahead of the rear tang screw - but if your's isn't, just apply some double-sided tape to the underside of the tang sight base & cinch down the (longer) tang screw.
Since RF's don't generate much recoil, and you're careful not to literally beat the brush with it, you should be good to go.

Yep, I see that the forward screw head is just a plug screw. It is 2.2 inches forward of the working screw. The question is I guess whether anyone makes a tang aperture sight with that spacing, and with the forward screw that small.
I didn't understand the idea of the double sided tape. Were you suggesting using the tape between the new tang sight and the tang, and using only the existing (or a longer) wood screw? Too simple and easy. It must be a good idea

FWIW, the rearmost/tang screw isn't a wood screw - it should be a machine screw, connecting upper/lower tangs.
A screw longer than issue is req'd, due to the extra thickness of the sight base. Lyman supplies the screw with their tang sights - Marbles sells them separately.
The tape was if the D/T'd hole for the tang sight base wasn't in place; it is, and it's a standard size & spacing for Marble's & Lyman (new) tang peep sights, but I'd scrounge around the web for a vintage tanger, if it were my rifle.

Just when I thought I was finished with research, I contacted both Marble's and Brownells and asked the question in different ways, but both say i'll need to drill my tang. Both offer sights that say they are appropriate for this rifle. I provided the screw placement and spacing. What do you think? PS: Marble's says theirs is all steel.
I think I'd buy this repro sight from Bob's Gun Shop - which even has the same hole spacing you say your rifle has.
