Talon 30.06 reloads

Has anyone used the Talon 30.06 reloads from the Ammoman?

http://www.ammoman.com

The cost is .28 a round and they are 150 grain fmj. This seems like a great buy for a day of enjoyable shooting. I not interested in match but just getting used to my Garand. I'm aware of the CMP ammo but I don't belong to any clubs around here because they're all too far away. I do shoot at an indoor range and am a member of that organization but they don't qualify for CMP. So, the Talon ammo seems to be the best price around.

Also, I'm going to a gun show next weekend and the ammo guys are all there. Is there one particular brand/type of 30.06 I should look for or even better yet, stay completely away from?

Any info will be apprecaited as usual!

Rome - I've used Talon in my Garand and haven't had any problems. I've heard some folks complain about inconsistency and lack of accuracy.

I've noticed that the price has sure gone up for it! I paid $79.95 for 400 rounds from http://www.classicarms.org about 6 months ago. Now it's up to $59.95 for 250 rounds.

You might also take a look at http://www.cole-distributing.com under their "internet specials" (scroll to the bottom of the page.) They have some non-corrosive USGI stuff listed - 500 rounds of TW51 for $99.95, and some LC52 ammo that's still in the "spam can" - 520 rounds for $149.95. Pricey, but the can is vacuum sealed which can't help but preserve almost 50 year old ammo.

I've had problems with the Talon ammo. I've had quite a few rounds short stroke the action and one or two that felt almost like squib loads. The cases often had little dings and whatnot.

A better choice is the new manufacture 150grn 30-06 from PMC. For $7.99/20, it's pretty accurate and surefire.

The ammo works but...

I picked up a lot of it and it works. However, some rounds are tarnished and some are slightly dinged. I have yet to have a malfunction with my shortie Garand but would prefer new factory ammo for SHTF situations.

I shot about 400 rounds of Talon 30-06 in my Garands, and had no problems with functioning. In fact, that batch cycles my Garands better than the most recent lot of real USGI M2 ball from my CMP club. But as others have said, you may be disappointed in the accuracy. From my rifles, the Talon ammo groups are about 50% bigger than M2 ball groups.

your replies

Thanks, everyone, for the replys. I'll checkout all the options I've got and decide what to buy. There's a gun show next weekend, too, and I may wait until then. There are some good prices and quality there.
