Talk to me about the NEW Colt 1991 1911's please.

Thinking of getting one.
The plain Jane fixed sight 1991 Series 80 Government model.

No frills.

Main concerns:

If you've shot one, does it group satisfactorily?
Does the hammer "bite?" It LOOKS like it's longer than the old GI ones.
Have you had any jams? (with factory ammo)

Thanks.

:)

I have a 2010 combat elite, and a 2012 gold cup. A few friends/ family have newer 1911s as well and they are very well made. no major issues with any of them at all. All shoot well, feed most every ammo with a reasonable profile, and are as accurate as needed.

My Combat elite has well over 20,000 rounds through it in 5 years with not one single firearm related issue. The gold cup is over 5,000 with the same results.

The management at Colt has some serious issues, but the production line is as good as they have ever been.

I assume you mean one of the Gov. looking ones which are about the cheapest Colt sells now. I have one from 2013 in 38 Super. They are most common in 45 but also come in 9mm.

I go not get hammer bit at all from these. These now have a flat MSH and long trigger. Also they have the Series 80 firing pin block. Mine is lovely. Around 2 inch groups over bags at 25 yards and it ejects the brass in a small area which is great since I reload 38 Super. For the price these can be found at now these are a good deal I think.

I have a Kimber Ultra crimson carry II, a Springfield Champion Loaded, and a Colt XSE Lightweight Commander.
But I am more accurate with my 1991 A1 Colt Government model.
And I actually enjoy shooting it more than the others.

If it feels good in your grip...as most 1911's...and it is within your budget, get it! Rather than telling you about my Desert Eagle 1911, I'd say you will have fun at the range! Oh, and practice with decent full jacketed target rounds before you carry!

I have both a new Colt 1991 and a new Colt SXE,the 1991 is a quality 1911 and it has had no failures of any kind.
I let a guy at my local range shoot it,he has a Colt Gold Cup. He said my 1991 has as good or better trigger then his GC. Myself I like it better then the SXE.
Colts quality today is top of the mark IMHO. and I think you will be very happy if you get one.:)
