Over the years, a collegue of mine did some gratis carpentry work for another friend of mine, who is a gunsmith in his spare time.

This week, my gunsmith friend took my collegue out to his favorite restaurant for lunch and presented him with a custom-built 1911 pistol he'd been working on since November: Stainless Norinco frame, slide, and parts; race trigger, top-drawer mags, rosewood show grips, Pachmeier shooting grips, and delivered in a custom-built walnut case. I got a peek at this morning. It is a beautiful thing to behold and operates wonderfully. Now THAT'S a gift. It makes you wish you had a craftsmanship skill like this so you could give gifts of this type.

When I graduated the Kansas City, Missouri police academy my mother handed me a new Smith & Wesson 4" model 29.

I am picking up a (used) S&W model 629 the first of the month I will be doing one of my full custom jobs on to presnt to a doctor friend of mine when he retires in June.

We live in a time in which attitudes and deeds once respected as courageous and honorable are now scorned as being antiquated and subversive.

I don't think Norinco has ever made a stainless steel gun. It's probably a blued gun that's been re-finished with chrome or nickel.

I'd prefer a chromed gun to stainless anyway. :D

I've since learned that it is, in fact, re-finished with a high rockwell chrome finish (by a fellow named Mc-something or other). It's a little whiter than stainless and richer looking. It is really beautiful. All custom parts, adjustable trigger with 3.5 lb pull. Mmmmm...
