i have 2 assualt rifles that are not california legal
and pistols wit hi cap magazines that i want to take back home to california..
what would be the best way to do this?

if i take it on a plane...will LAX check to see if its cali legal?
if i send it through fed ex or soemthing would that be better? and does it have to be sent through an FFL or can i just send it to a family member?

i mean worst comes to worst...i can drive...but its gonna be a long drive from kansas to cali

If they are not legal in CA, then do not take them. The consequences of being arrested for having them are far worse than to do without them.

It would be the height of foolishness to take them, and I doubt the moderators here want anyone here to help you break the law, and maybe go to prison.

I live here in California. Our gun laws are assinine. But for God's sake, do not bring any California illegal firearms into this state. Our state is overly lenient on many crimes, but having the wrong gun is not one of them. The grief you would suffer if casught is not worth.

After that, you will not be allowed to posses any firearms in the Golden State. Either sell them or leave them with a trusted person.

In fact, hi cap mags are only legal IF they were already posessed and in the state prior to the ban. Importing or bringing them into the State, even if you own them and have no intention to sell them, is illegal.

I'd recommend that you not bring the weapons into the state. Someone will see/hear about you posessing them and you WILL go to prison (not "jail") for a long time. Which will totally ruin your life and your family.

answer maybe obvious...but

Say you are traveling through California to somewhere else... can you not have these 'banned' guns in the trunk unloaded?

If you were going to illegally import and possess weapons, you've increased your risk by posting about it.

You evidently haven't thought this through. Don't do it. I'm sure you can find someone in AZ or Vegas or Reno or Portland to keep your assault weapons safe for you. IIRC there's a range in southern NV or AZ that offers assault weapon storage for California residents.

If I remember right federal law states that if they're legal at your destination then you can indeed travel through a state that has outlawed them. Like I said, if I remember right.

Re:mxwelch

Federal, schmederal, I would not even chance passing through our lovely state with any banned weapons. My FFL dealer works for our state's department of justice. They have very little tolerance and absolutely no sense of humor on this. They make the IRS look like a bunch of saints.

I realize most of you are shaking your heads and are thankful you do not live here. However, this will eventually affect you no matter where you live.

Isn't it a five-year felony or some such?

And an "evil gun smuggler" would probably wind up doing more prison time than a child molestor in California.

Re:mvpel

It is a felony. If the person has no other criminal record, there will be a plea deal. It involves five years of probation, community weekend work projects, and a lifetime ban on firearm ownership.

In California you can only buy one handgun per month. If a person even attempts to get that second pistol, a DOJ person will be knocking on your door. At that point, every firearm in your possession better have a paper trail.

The rest of you will soon suffer the wrath of California.
