take off barrels

My Remington 700 needs a new barrel and I just saw that Numrich (Shotgun News) is selling new factory take offs for under $50. good idea or not ? Does anyone have insights or experience in going this route ? Thanks for your help.

Addecus, this is one of those maybe so maybe no so questions. With take-off bbls there is no guarantee. Just like some factory rifles shoot great out of the box and some don't. One thing is in your favor though. If you get one that is in no better shape than the one you have you can always send it back. George

Read that: You can always flog it at a gun show. In general, you have to have a better complaint than "It won't shoot" to get permission to return a barrel.
