Tacticool Revolver

Hi, I usually am active in the NFA forum, but I am here because I am looking to buy a revolver.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it: I want a tacticool revolver*.

The word 'tacticool' is tossed around like a pejorative, but darn it, sometimes it's fun to just buy useless stuff.

I was thinking something like this:

I don't like the fluted cylinder. I am going to call and see if Performance Center will make it unfluted (like the old Colt Grizzly).

Price isn't a concern, and I'd like it to cost upwards of $1000. Custom or semi custom is preferred.

Can someone make a recommendation as to a tacticool revolver? .357 mag.

* I know that 'tacticool revolver' is an oxymoron, like 'jumbo shrimp'.

Well for one thing, I don't really think that qualifies as a "tacticool" revolver. It's a competitors gun, it's not meant for "tactical applications", take a look at the weight of the thing. If you want an unfluted cylinder, that will bring the weight up to about 55 ounces. The extremely heavy barrel is for competition shooting.

What I recommend is the S&W TRR8.

Here is a Nutnfancy review:

This is an N-frame .357 magnum 8-shot revolver designed from the ground up for Law Enforcement use. It is used as a specialty weapon for SWAT team members using ballistic shields. The slides of various semi-auto handguns have a tendency to hang up on the side of the ballistic/riot shields, a revolver doesn't have that issue. It also has a light/laser Picattiny rail on the bottom of the barrel. When you aren't operating operationally, it would be a great home defense revolver as well. It also costs above $1000 how you are wanting, though I don't see how or why this is important to you.

Reports are excellent for this gun, it comes from the factory cut for moonclips so has some serious firepower for a revolver. It's about as "tacticool" as you're going to get in a wheelgun, but it actually does have some real world "tactical" applications.

Awesomeness. Thanks, fellas. Anyone else with suggestions, please chime in.

Interesting that in the review the narrator mentions a tactical revolver.

I'm not a stranger to revolvers. I just haven't purchased one in a while. I own an Anaconda and King Cobra. I wish I had purchased the Grizzly for $500 back in the mid 90s, when it was offered to me. Grrr.

I'm quite certain my next purchase will be a fancy revolver of some sort.

How 'bout the real deal - a Manurhin MR73.

I couldn't find a picture, but my image of a tacticool revolver is:

s&w 13; pinned and recessed; 357 mag; 3" barrel
Action tuned; barrel and cylinder matched for accuracy; cal gap smooth and even
Ceracoated black or other tacticool color
Tritium front sight; open up or V the rear notch
Lightweight and smooth DA pull with bobbed hammer
Speed loaders; gun cut for them to clear
Round butt rosewood burl grips and VZ grips for work time
Custom leather

6" Rhino

Put an Aimpoint on the top rail. Add a spacer to the bottom rail and bolt on a Magpul AFG underneath. Totally Uber-Taticool!

Put a lanyard ring on the bottom of the grip, and I bet you could rig a nice single point sling for it!

Seriously, get the TRR8.

It is IMHO, the greatest tactical weapon system units ever made for operators operating operationally.

Interestingly I just picked up an R8 today, out of jail on Memorial Day. Great gun, the single action trigger is awesome but could be a bit lighter, 8 rounds with full moon clips, lower rail and attachable upper rail if you want to mount a scope or red dot. Haven't fired it yet, looking forward to it. :D

That's it! The R8.

I wonder if Performance Center will make a custom version without fluting in the cylinder, and in stainless steel.

I'm actually not looking to use this gun tactically. I am admittedly an urban warrior who refuses to fight zombies unless I have air conditioning and plenty of Gatorade for hydration.

I embrace, love, and laugh at the AR tacticool trend. This is my revolver version. It's going to be totally useless, but totally cool.

This one is for you then! :D

I've put a TLR3 on mine, but otherwise it's a HD weapon and also a range toy, I'm sure it's very accurate and has an adjustable rear sight. Got enough semi-auto handguns, but this is only my second revolver.

Jeff, that is so awesome!

Congrats on the gun.

Does that gun in the pic have a laser, a heads up red dot sight, and a flash light? What's that red thing under the barrel?

That's just overly tacticool. Lol.

We shall bring the revolver into the 21st century. Maybe H&K will make polymer revolvers next.

JeffK, whoa! Is that seriously your gun? Thats a vampire hunter if i ever saw one. Good luck finding a holster for it though. :D

Ha! I was going to comment about the LCR too.

Ha, no, I found the pics on the net. :D I'm not sure what all the geegaws are on that gun, but it sure is cool. Mine is just plain jane, with a TLR3 on the short rail under the barrel. Still cool.
