TActical Rifle Stocks

Need some input on tactical rifle stocks: best, price, molded color or painted, adjustable buttpad or no, etc. Any help will be appreciated.

We have one member who doesn't like McMillan and has begun to make his own.

Two things to consider in selecting a stock. First, you price range. Don't salivate over that which you cannot afford. The other thing about those newer stocks (especially the A3 by McMillan), it may be great for shooting, but for portability, it probably won't rate too high. Carry it around the woods and you may agree. The snipers in 'Nam went with sporter style stocks instead of the more square target stocks because they were easier to carry around all day.

Thanks for the info so far, guys. How about the painted vs. molded-in color on stocks. How important is that. And what is the purpose of the adjustable buttstock? I know it's for length-of-pull but why adjustable?

Adjustable due to environment. . . .

My team has the McMillan A2 stock on our issued bolt guns. The LOP is useful when wearing thick heavy clothing when deployed in cold areas. The adjustable cheek piece is necessary when utilizing multiple scopes. One setup we use is a Leupold Mark 4 on the rifle and then an AN-PVS4 or Raptor Nightvision above and offset from the Leupold.

If you don't want to wait on the factory for stocks, give John Baier a call http://www.tacticalstocks.com

H-S Precision really stands behind their products. Also, their bedding system allows for a truly drop-in stock that works as well as a glass-bedded one.

As to camo; I understand that the real-deal folks like to just paint their rigs, so they can tailor them to the shades found in the area in which they're operating.

Rosco:

I have not been able to find a website for H-S Precision or a dealer who lists their stocks/prices. Can you help on this?

I ordered from Sniper Country.

As far as I know, Scott from Sniper Country has the best deals around. I have ordered a HS Precision PRT 25. The only bad thing is they ship direct from the factory and the factory is taking a while to put them together. Scott did have the best price at $415 shipped.

I have also just recently bought a set of IOR 30mm tactical rings and a new IOR 20 MOA angled base that looks just like the Badger Ordnacne 15 slot base. The set was a lot cheaper than the BO set and it shipped really fast. I highly recommend Scott at Sniper Country. He is a great guy to talk to and he will take care of you.

I can't wait to get my stock so I can give yall an update.

Midway USA also has the PRT 25 in stock and I bet Brownells does too. Only bad thing is you are going to pay a bit more.

Do not be suprised if you have to bed the rifle action to the fancy pillar block in your H&S Precision stock. I have had 5 of them and still own two. Of them 3 had to be bedded to obtain optimum accuracy and the 1 other had to have its bedding screws set to a "sweet spot" of torque to function well. Of the 5 only one met the claims of a "bolt on, no bed" stock with "bench rest accuracy". No beddding block made in one factory and an action made in another can hope to fit like a good bedding job.
