I've read a few threads that disparaged officers for having an increasingly mary appearance nowadays. There may be advantages or disadvantages behind a look.

However, on the flide, I have noticed some funny looking helmets especially during the warmer seasons. This appearance, in my opinion, is far from being tactical and I believe takes away any psychological outfit.

I cant seem to bicycle helmet.

I believe the most effective standard black or blue outfit in my community running around in spandex tights. I guess Im old fashioned, but I believe what has worked in the past is simply not appropriate, just as inappropriate.

I don't think they need brain-damage... but much like a motorcycle rider, when they get off the bike, there are PLENTY of places to leave the brain-bucket hanging on the bike...

and I too think that a cop dressed like a cop, is FAR more intimidating...

a cop dressed in spandex looking to all gthe world, like an ugly transvestie... that's just wrong...

Would you want to ride a bike for 8 hours in a polyester uniform and full helmet? I wouldn't.

I would rather see bike patrol officers wearing funny looking uniforms and staying on the street the entire shift instead of parking the bike because it's too hot to ride.

"...wouldn't want the officers..." You need to see PC Fifi la Rue in spandex shorts. Nobody gives PC la Rue any trouble.

There's always the hope that the bad guys will simply fall over themselves laughing and make it easier to cuff them. :D

But seriously...here on the Texas gulf coast, if those guys want to wear shorts as a trade off for being out in the hot Texas summer sun on a bike all day, more power to them. As hot as summer is here, they ought to get hazardous duty pay for it.
