Tactical 870 build questions

I bought an 870 Tactical about 2 1/2 years ago thinking this would be my go to shotgun.Was very happy with this gun at first but not so much now.I love the 870 it fits me perfectly but this weapon has locked up on me a few times and 2 bubble spots have appeared on the ejection side of the reciever.After much research I have decided to send the gun to JD at AIP in Michigan for some TLC that Remington didn't give it and to get it parkerized. I wantto change out the barrel I believe I want a fixed cylinder bore since buckshot and slugs will be the guns diet. Are the police barrels heavier walled? Do the police barrels pattern better? Will a police barrel fit an express reciever ?

No.Same dimensions.

Maybe. Each barrel is a law unto itself.

Yes. With the sole exception of Special Field models, all 870 stuff is interchangeable within gauge.

Actually slugs generally perform better through a slightly constricted barrel, with I/C being pretty much ideal. JD sells barrels and I'll bet a parkerized I/C factory barrel will be less expensive than a CYL bore.

Re barrels, most newer short barrels have a little choke in them, oft IC.

This works for slugs and buck better than straight cylinder most of the time....
 
Thanks when I save up a little more cash and call JD I will mention what the guns gonna eat. I don't like the extended choke that came on it cause it turns my 18 1/2" barrel to around 20".

Except, of course, loads such as Federal FliteControl and Hornady TAP, which seem to pattern better out of CYL bore.
 
I think JD is a good choice. Long ago I decided that if and when my Express needs it I am sending it to JD for parkerizing. He will build it the way you want it, but I think he also subcribes to simple is best.
