Question when I start the bullet its kinda tough, yup normal,

I get about 4" down and its free and easy sailing..matter o' fact,I noticed the
bullet is almost loose when seated.(on account of once I pushed to hard and the soft lead stuck to rod and pulled up a bit)

This is my first muzzleloader and not sure if it's normal or what.

Might be but what projectile are you using. On a PRB this would not be normal if your bore is good. Brush your bore, swab and swab again with denatured alcohol. Check your bore all the way using a bore light. If you don't have a bore light, drop a shiney slug down the bore and direct a bright light down the bore and see what you have at the upper end. If you are shooting conicals, this could be normal depending on what they are. Tell us your shot-string. ;)

By the way, I do have a New Englander that mostly shoots PRB's.

All bullets will start a little hard, but after the bullet gets into the barrel, the pressure should remain constant, all the way to the bottom. If it is no, I would give Thompson Center a call, and ask them what is up.

I had an Encore barrel about 4 years ago, that had two different tight spots inside the barrel, located about where the ramrod holders were welded onto the barrel. Would not group any two shots within 6" of each other.

I sent the barrel back to them, and they replaced it with one that did not have the tight spots, and the rifle will now shoot 1" groups at 100 yards.

Kind of figured something like that and that's why I mentioned them previously. I too have shot the Maxi-Hunter and what you are seeing should be normal and nothing to worry about. it will be tight when you first go in till the rifling starts to wear it down. Remamber that your Maxi-Hunter is lubricated or should be. You should still inspect the bore and look for bulges along the outside of the barrel. for the outside just put a light film of oil just enough to make it shiney. Then look lengthwise down the loutside of the barrel and see if you can see any bulges. I do this on inspecting shotguns as well and its surprising what you might see. That's quite a chunk of lead you are trying to push out, isn't it? I don't know or understand why your rod tip is sticking. The Maxi-Hunter has a small dimple on the end and you might want to get a loading jag the fits this dimple. Go ahead, load it and see how it shoots. Later, if you wish, you can put a bore button between the powder and conical. Would really appreciate it if you got back to us and let us know how you made out. ;)

Guess I didn't mention I've sighted it in twice now....beginning of each white-tail
season I have owned it...

Gotta say these are probably the funnest to shoot and with that big chunk of lead it just about tears the bulls-eye right out of the target when its hit right..

Just noticed the issue happening last range session and thought it was strange so I asked.

As the weather allows, I shoot quite a bit and for the exception of shotguns, will shoot just about anything. There is always satisfaction in getting into the 10X. Reading your resonse was I realized that I enjoy shooting M/L's more than any other firearm. It's kind of a lonely shoot as most of my old M/L buddies are no longer in my area. I can spend an entire afternoon shooting 30 rounds, spend what's left of the afternoon cleaning up and still call it fun. Glad to see you've been bit by this bug ..... :D
