My son bought an 50 cal T/C Encore muzzle loader and I was thinking of getting him the 12ga shotgun barrel. It is ribbed and fenced with 3chokes. Would it be too light for sport shooting?

Sport shooting what? Skeet, trap, sporting clays? Being a single-shot would put him out of buisness at both skeet and sporting clays. With trap, he would be limited to rounds of singles.

A T-C shotgun barrel from Midway is $385, for that kind of money you can buy a Remington Express or Mossberg w/extra slug barrel.

Six pound 12 gauge, with a 24" barrel (per their website) and with the type of grip it utilizes might give him some issues on targets that are flying, whether clay or feathered. It looks more like it is designed for stationary shots at turkeys

Still might be fun, but if it as costly as mentioned above, there are other alternatives that would allow him to enjoy clay games where there are two birds flying
