I did a ton of trigger jobs on Contenders when I was shooting metallic silhouette. The only thing I can remember for sure was replacing the trigger return spring with a piece of ball-point pen spring. Getting an 8-10 oz trigger pull that was dependable wasn't much of a problem.
A super light trigger was mainly for shooting in the Standing Production category. The first time the sights looked right, you could get the gun to fire.
I had a trigger job done by Stratton Custom and he did an excellent job. Not sure what his turn around time is now. It was about six weeks when I had mine done last year.
On Contenders, have you found that the adjustment on the trigger guard, has not given you the performance you are looking for? I am no longer into competition shooting but punch a lot of paper and this adjustment works for me.
At the top of the trigger is another set screw that adjusts creep. Cock the hammer and turn the screw in until the hammer falls. Back the screw out about 3/4 turn, and check again. It should be about perfect. I have taken a couple of coils off the trigger return spring to lighten the pull weight. Cut one coil at a time and keep checking the trigger. The most I've taken off is two coils.
