Were there any systemas made in the Commander size, or were they strictly Government model only and why?
I'd like to purchase a Commander sized 1911, but would rather not sink $500 to $600 into it.
The Colt Commander was introduced in 1949 or 1950, long after the Sistema went into production (1927, I think). The Commander model was never produced for any military organization or foreign government, as far as I know.
The "sistema Colt" pistols were made only by and for the Argentine government and only in the standard M1911A1 style. There were a few SM Ace copies in .22. There were no "Commander" models.
Thanks guys for the replies.
I've looked at the Rock Island Armory commander and the Griffon commander. I heard some good reviews and some bad. Even though I didn't want to spend $500 or $600, I don't want to spend $350 or $400 and wind up with a piece of crap. I guees I'll have to stick with the big names. Lookin at a Springfield Ultra compact right now.
I bought a combat grade S.A.M. 1911 at century international and am selling my sistema because of it.It shoots much nicer and is 100 times more comfortable. That said,it doesn't have 118,000 rounds through it like my sistema probably does and probably wouldn't make it that far.It is 99% colt compatible (grip screws & front site won't fit). www.centuryarms.com
P.S.Selling the sistema will pay for the S.A.M. and 200 rounds of ammo
