Systema .45 Anybody?

Anyone own a Systema Argentine .45?

Seems to me like a decent 1911.

Are the parts interchangable with Colts?

How much should I pay for one?

Thanks Jim.

I understand that the Ballester Molina is not interchangable with Colts. Correct? Are they any good?

I will add the Systema to my "want list" when I can muster up the cash.

Who sells nice ones?

Thanks
R

Here's mine from cruffler.com, nice gun at a very good price! To answer the question about parts interchangability, it's 100% colt compatible. The 1927 was produced on Colt machinery, and was a licensed 1911 copy.

My Systema was orignally made for the Argentine Air force by the emblem on it in 1930, According to my Uncle (He's an FFL and gave it to me :D ) these are every bit a Colt just made on colt equipment in Argentina, some were made in New Haven and were shipped to Argentina .

Mine is the Model 1927 it has extended safety, extended Beavertail, Wilson trigger , Skeletonized Hammer Not sure what sites it has looks like a type of Novaks and I still have all orignal parts and serial numbers on everything matches. Great shooter.

I have one of the M1927 Argentine "Marina de Guerra" pistols myself. It feels better in my hands than any other 1911-style I have ever used.

I read in a gun mag (can't remember which) that the M1927 was made of highest-quality Swedish steel, and due to this the M1927 is one ounce heavier than the M1911-A1. Go figure!

Ballista Molina

Not many of the B/M parts will interchange with the Systema or other 1911A1's. Even the grip screw spacing is different. The internals of the B/M are different from 1911's. I think that about the only things that will interchange are slides, barrels, recoil springs, recoil spring guides, barrel bushings etc. I could be wrong on that however. I'll have to dig out my B/M and take a look.

FWIW, I was told by a gunsmith friend that the only thing interchangeable on a BM is the barrel and magazines.

Been thinking about a systema myself.

My Grade 1 looks just as beautiful as johnwill's.These guns are basically in brand new condition when you buy one.

mvdemarco,

Mine was the "Grade 1" for $299. It does look new, and it had a brand new barrel when I got it. My only complaint was the barrel link was not staked. The barrel had a matching serial number, but I'm pretty convinced it was a replacement, since I had to do a bit of fitting of the barrel feet to allow it to slip easily into the slide. OTOH, I think it was a hell of a deal for the money. :)

seems like a good deal but if you are going to0 relace alot of internals just to get a reliable shooter you probably would do better(money wise)to get a new 1991.

I ´ve one for more than 15 years, with + 15.000 shoots of surplus ammo on it (I don´t know how many shoots were done by the Ejército Argentino before).

I still use the original barrel and my groups are in more o less 3" at 25 yards handheld with any decent factory ammo. I only changed the magazines (all the others parts remain original). I keep the original magazine that matches with the gun serial number.

Few months ago CDNN was offering them in very good to excellent condition.

Good Luck !

Scoops, you may be right about the numbers, but there's something to be said for owning a piece of history, isn't there?

OTOH, my smith friend has worked on a couple dozen of these, and the only thing he recommends is a spring kit, all of 12 bucks. A little polishing on the action, and you have a nice shooter, he says.

I'm gonna give it a try!

scoops,

If you're referring to my post, you misunderstand. I had to replace no parts to get a good shooter. FWIW, having the barrel link loose doesn't really hurt anything, it's just two more small parts that tend to fall in a corner when you field strip the pistol. My "fitting" of the barrel consisted of a bit of filing on the barrel feet to allow free passage into the slide, no big deal. Personally, I think it was a great buy at $299.

I got mine from CDNN and although i like it,i was disappointed that it had none of the "rare varied slide markings"that the ad talked about. My FFL said that the gun was in excellent condition with the exception of the barrel which he said showed wear although it still has 1000's of rounds left in it.;)

I've been looking at one of these for the past month now. I talked to Adam Firestone, the guy who runs Cruffler.com, and he couldn't say enough nice good things about 'em. I think I'll get one of 'em when my C & R comes in. I need a playmate for my Ruger P-90. There's nothing more satisfying than having a BBT deliver a piece of history to your front door. :D Take that liberal scum!:p
