Switching safety on 870 Wingmaster

I have an older 870 Wingmaster that has the safety set up for a lefty, & I'd like to switch it to right-handed configuration.

Is it hard to do? Will I have to buy parts, or simply switch it over to the other side? Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I'm looking to do just the opposite - switch mine from right to left. Word has it the usual way to switch it is to drill another detent spring hole offset to the left and "clocked" so it doesn't interfere with the original hole. Sounds to me like you could just switch it back.

Drop the trigger assembly and look at the top of the rearmost projecting part, above the safety. On a non-modified righty, there will be a 1/8" or so hole drilled down toward the safety offset to the right of center. Yours will likely have another hole close by, offset left. Push out the little cross pin at the top to release the spring, push the safety completely out, turn it around, put it back in, and put the detent ball, spring & cross pin back into the original hole.

In any case, let me know how it was accomplished. If it's a matter of swapping small parts, maybe we can arrange something.

This is not a simple move-the-parts operation. Remington makes a left-hand trigger plate that you can buy and mount the parts on to convert to left-hand operation. You can also modify a right-hand trigger plate to do the job. The best option for you two might be to swap the trigger groups between your respective shotguns.

I've done the redrill conversion many times and it is not the easiest thing to do..Having a milling machine for this really helps..

However there is a source of left hand drop in safetys. Email me and I'll send you one.

The right hand safety can be purchased from GunPartsCorp.

Left Hand Safeties

Willp58,

Being a lefty myself, could you give me more info on your source for left handed safeties? Much appreciated

Jeff
