Sweet Jesus, I'm getting out of Kalifornia!!!!!!!

Back to my homeland! Back to politicians I have some respect for (Chenoweth, Craig).

The wife got a job in Boise. I always swore I'd never live there, but never say never as they say. I don't have a job yet, but oh well.

Just in time too. Kalifornia is just too much anymore. Idaho is at least semi-free. Davis can kiss my a$$, I'm not registering so much as a BB gun!

Boise is not exactly God's country, but its within driving distance.

Just had to share.

"Put a rifle in the hands of a Subject, and he immediately becomes a Citizen." -- Jeff Cooper

"The fact is that the average man's love of liberty is nine-tenths imaginary, exactly like his love of sense, justice and truth. He is not actually happy when free; he is uncomfortable, a bit alarmed, and intolerably lonely. Liberty is not a thing for the great masses of men. It is the exclusive possession of a small and disreputable minority, like knowledge, courage and honor. It takes a special sort of man to understand and enjoy liberty - and he is usually an outlaw in democratic societies." -- H.L. Mencken, February 12, 1923, Baltimore Evening Sun

Welcome to Boise. I moved here 2 months ago from Phoenix, and I wish I had done it 3 years ago. It's not as religious right wing as the northern part, but it's a lot better than most other parts of this country.

Congrats, Jack. Kalifornicator sucks big time. Idaho is pretty good step up on the ladder. If I can swing it one of these days headed for the high country of AZ. But time's running out on me.

Jim

Congratulations!

I just made it over the border myself a few weeks ago -- I'm down in Kuna now. I spent three years in CA, and that was more than enough! One of the happiest moments I've had in months was tearing up my BFSC card and tossing out those CA plates.

So Jack -- what kinda work ya looking for? There's signs all over.. anything we could do some pre-scouting for ya on?

Also Eric -- care to help another newcomer out by pointing the way to a good local range/group?

Good evening y'all!

Hey ya'll, we need you in North Carolina. We're about to be on the anti-terrorist front line. Life's too easy in Idaho and Montanna, come out here and stick your toes over the edge of the cliff! If you find some cheap land let me know, a feller can always use a back up!

Does the thought of fighting wildfires excite you ? If so Idaho has a job for you . They are VERY short of help on the fire lines and are looking for full time help .
This is very helpful even if you don't stay . How many applicants can walk into an interview and say " Hi , I just got done saving your butt . Can you say THANKS ? Can you say START TOMORROW ? "

Kaylee, welcome aboard - Idaho, that is. A good range? Just head east on the Kuna-Mora road until you hit Black's Creek Range. You'll pass the Boise Trap/Skeet Club ranges first, but just keep on trucking. You can't miss it. Call them first to find out the shooting hours.

Pistol, rifle, shotgun. The Idaho Automatic Weapons Collectors have some heavy duty machine gun shoots there, too. A couple of months ago, I shot stuff with those guys I hadn't shot since I was in the Army.

Also, there is a good range at Nampa, but I've only shot there once as the guest of a friend, who was a member of the club. Don't know much about the club, but they are always looking for good members.

Hey, Paratrooper, I take it you're ex-Airborne. Speaking of firefighting, one of the top firefighting units in the world is the Boise Hot Shots. They have several ex-troopers in their unit. Those are some tough dudes! J.B.

Dang, Kaylee. I was going to ask you! I'm looking for a decent gun shop. I checked out an indoor range in Boise that was very expensive. I was hoping to do as I did in AZ by just going out into the BLM land or other.

Congrats Jack, just got back from training at frontsight nevada, and now long to leave this commie state. Idaho also has about the best state constitution guarding guns in all the country.

Best of luck with your new state.

There seems to be a good number of folks that live in the Boise/Kuna/Mountain Home area. Say, I know the range at Blacks Creek Range. The URL you want is: http://members.dencity.com/eedahow/ They have a map to the range and all. I've been meaning to go to some of the meetings myself but work always gets in the way. Anyway, just thought that maybe some day, we could all meet so we can match faces to members. USP45usp

Yee-haw! These folks do the rendezvous thing to? I've been wanting to hit one of those for years. Like you said USP -- been putting off too much for work.

As to a local gathering, I'm up for it.. some Saturday maybe, at this range?

Thanks for all the advice. I'm surprised at all of the Boise folks here.

I was looking at houses (online) in Kuna. Looks like a nice little area. Fairly cheap too. I'm going to have to resist the urge to move out to Garden Valley and surround a couple of acres with concertina wire ;) so I'll probably have to compromise by going out to one of the outlying cities. How's the commute to Nampa?

Paratrooper,

I have fought fires. No thanks. I was 135 pounds at the time, 5 foot 11, skinny as a rail and still lost 10 pounds in one week. Then for a while it seemed every time I visited my mom, a damn fire broke out! She lived out in the sticks and out there, if you see smoke, you get a shovel and an axe (which should already be in your truck) and drive TOWARD it. Otherwise your house and your neighbors houses are goners. Anyway, for about 3 summers in a row when I was on leave from the Navy I ended up fighting fires as an unpaid volunteer. Like I said, I'll leave that one to the young bucks.

Although I could stand to lose a few pounds...........

KayLee: It doesn't matter on the range or area. Just one that may be central to everyone interested in getting together for a fun day of shooting the bull and firing our pride and joys. I live in Mountain Home so the Blacks Creek Range is the nearest one that I know of. You or others may know of a better range that's within driving distance for all. If the meet is held on a Saturday, I will need to know way in advance since my "weekend" falls on Tuesday night and Wednesday day. The only bad thing about BCR is that they are closed on Wednesday. If I get a chance, I would like to become a member of the range so I can get access to a key. Just been bombarded with work, trying to find new work (I would love to work/live in Boise but the start up cost are high), and settle down finally. If you and the others are interested, we can communicate via email: Wayne31@uswest.net and could talk about it some more. And don't worry, I'm really not the loathsome troll I come across sometimes on the board. Just very opinioned. Oh, to get back to the original thread... Jack, just don't tell anyone you're from... well, that place. Change your tags as soon as possible, and if you have an accent, tell em you're from the South... :D

USP,

I know about the plates. I'm trying to figure out how to get new ones BEFORE I move. My car's already scratched up enough as it is, I don't need people keying me in the parking lot (happens quite often to cars with Cal plates in Idaho).

My only "accent" is Idahoan, I was raised there and lived there for most of my life.

I have to admit, I love Kuna. A little flat for a Tennessee mountain girl, but hey -- it ain't packed with people, the folks that are here are friendly, and the pickups still have deer rifles in the back window! Best place I've been in years.

The commute to Boise's pretty good if you skip the peak times, and not that bad yet even if you don't. Can't say to Nampa, but I expect it would be mostly reverse commute once you get to the freeway, and you'ld be fine.

As far as plates, yipes! Felt like a moving target my first few weeks here. And USP -- I AM from the South. :D

One last story -- saw a guy on 84 a couple days ago in a new big 'ol Pavement-SUV with ID plates and a nice big bumper sticker reading "California Native." Talk about guts....

EricM-- try Shapel's Gun Shop, 1708 N. Liberty (a half block north of Fairview), Boise, 375-6159. If you like "fun" guns (you know, the ugly, black ones, and Class III), try The Gun Monkey, 5278 Chinden Blvd., Garden City, 672-8658.

Have fun. J.B.
