Hey guys...just bought this and thought I would share. It's a 1934 Swedish 6.5 x 55 mauser. Still in cosmoline and matching numbers throughout. Stock has a few handling marks but nothing really noticeable. Stock hasn't been removed from action/barrel and blueing is very very nice so I don't think it's aresnal refiinshed.
I know there is a few people on here that have these so chime in and tell me how you like them. Price was $ 250.00 at LGS. Thanks!

Very nice. Mine is dated 1905, matching numbers but it has an import marking. The 6.5X55 Swedish is on the bottom, 7X57 Chilean (1895) is the upper one.

Wow, $250? Merry Christmas to you, that's a great price.:)
I have owned 4 Swedish Mausers, (an M96, M38, and two sporterized M96s)

I currently have 2.
A Carl Gustav 1896 made in 1912, which is still in original configuration. Easily the most accurate military surplus rifle I have ever fired(and I've fired alot of them.) I actually prefer the cock on closing, perhaps just because I'm more used to it.

The other is my deer rifle, which is a Carl Gustav 1918 barrelled action modified by Kimber. I added a Butler Creek stock and mounted a Weaver 2-10x scope. It's not the prettiest rifle in the my safe, but it's put more meat in the freezer than any of the others. It weighs about 8 pounds, and shoots 1" groups at 100 yards, what's not to love

Surplus ammo is getting pretty tough to come by, and I've begun shooting the Privi Partisan with good results. Stick to the normal loading in the 130-140gr range, that is what the rifle is designed to shoot.

You won't be disappointed

WOW, What a buy, I love the Sweedish Mauser, its so precise, and beautifully made. I sure wish some of you guys with the C&R guns would support us on the Curio and Relic forum, we would love to look at your beautifull rifles. Merry Christmas.:)

I really like my Gustav 96/38. You may wish to add a taller front sight so that you can use the sights at 100 yds. The stock ones are set for 300M.

all i know is my dad has one, and hes goo goo-gaa gaa for it.

I dont blame him, its beautiful, wonderful, and shoots like a dream.

Pretty decent cartridge too. Theres alot to be said about the 6.5, but i wont get into it because im not educated enough.

It cocks different than a german mauser? German cocks on opening, Swedish cocks on closing? Or do i have the two mixed up?

What I thought was cool about this one..is it has a hooded front sight. Most of them I see dont..or maybe there just missing. Very unusual hood but I think it looks cool. Cant wait to shoot it.

I've got a '41 Husqvarna M38 and an '02 Gustav M96, they've become my favorite surplus rifles. You'll love it and if you've never shot the 6.5x55 you're really going to love the round. Even my friends who aren't into old military rifles have become fans of the round, one is looking to buy a CZ in that caliber to use as a hunting rifle. Nice loud boom and very little recoil. ;)

thedaddycat, the stripes on that Chilean stock are beautiful.

Bumnote, thanks. When I got those rifles I took them apart for a good cleaning and going through. I used Murphy's oil soap to clean the wood and gave them a wipedown with Danish oil finish to help seal the wood once cleaned. I was pleasantly suprised at how that one came out, but I'm not sure what kind of wood was used for the stock. It does have a really nice grain to it.

SHNOMIDO, both of mine cock on closing. I'm not sure about the K98. I have several other old military bolt rifles, most of them cock on closing also.

You're right.

@eastbank= That's a beauty of a M38. The one I had wasn't nearly that nice. I sold the 38 to buy a 1898 Krag when I had an urge to get a US rifle. Later, I traded the Krag for an M1 Garand, which I don't shoot nearly as much as the Swede 96;)

$250 is a steal for an original Model 96.
X 10 !!!

I bought a Gustav several years ago, and sporterized it, using the orignal stock.. It is my go-to deer rifle. Kills deer like a thunderbolt. Great cartridge, minimal recoil, WAY accurate.

I'm borderline jealous! :D

Thanks guys...this ones a Carl Gustav as well. Bore is mint..should shoot ok.

No.. it should shoot GREAT. Mine will do under an inch at 100 all day long with Hornady 140gr interlocks at about 2650fps.
