SWC's in SIG 220?

Hi all. In light of my rejuvinated honeymoon with my SIG P 220, I've decided I'm going to shoot it more. Alot more. I'd like to experiment with 185-230 gr. semi-wadcutters (lead and jacketed, factory), but I'm not sure how they'll feed in the P 220 on account of its sharply raked feed ramp. I know that the best thing to do is buy some and give 'em a whirl, but I'm a cheapskate and don't want to sink money into ammo that won't feed.

To all you stalwart P 220 owners- how does your pistol fare with factory loaded SWC's? Any makers/ bullet weights stand out as particularly accurate? Any that just won't feed at all?
Every gun is of course different with regard to dimensional tolerances and personal proclivities, but I'd like to avoid any ammo makers/bullet weights that people have had alot of trouble with. Thanks!

Hello. My P220 is utterly reliable with everything EXCEPT SWC ammo! I'm sorry, but I've not fired any factory SWC through it, but my handloads only work when the magazine has 6 or less SWC rounds in it.

Best.

Thanks for your input, Stephen. I'm doubtful that SWC's will feed reliably in the 220; the ramp/chamber transition just seems too abrupt for anything with a shoulder. I'd love to use them, though. There's something so satisfying about that "cookie cutter" effect on targets! I'll give some 200 gr. SWC lead reloads a try and see what happens.
Thanks,
vanfunk

My 220 shoots 200gr LSWC fine as long as the gun is clean and I load them to max OAL length for the magazine.

Out of an older (European) P220 I've fired thousands of 200 grain SWCs (including Hornady's swaged C/T SWC, and Magnus cast SWCs) with no problems whatsoever. In more recent years I've also used a bunch of T&T's cast 225 grain flat point loads with no problems.

My guess is it is according to the specific pistol. Mine will feed 200gr lswc bullets but leads up fast. It will not feed 200gr jacketed semi-wadcutters. I am not sure if I have tried 185gr swc bullets of any type. Try a few and see what your pistol will feed and avoid those that create problems. Regards, Richard

My P220 would feed anything I could fit into the magazine. I ran 180gr SWC's from Laser Cast mostly. I must admit that I fed it loads that I am embarrased to say I loaded, but it never even flinched. It was totally reliable.

My partner has run about 3,000 rounds of Red Line cast 185gr SWC through his 220 in the past year. No problems.

Just for kicks he ran a magazine of flush seated full wadcutters through it without a hitch.

His Sig likes him.

Sam
