SWC 10mm Deep Cut Issue

Tried out some of my handloads yesterday. Every few rounds i was getting an fte. When i got an fte, the next round in the magazine had a deep cut in it, as shown in the picture. This happened in my glock 29 as well as my glock 21 with conversion barrel. I measured the diameter of the case mouth and it is .423

Was hoping someone could offer some help with this issue. This is my first time loading swc's.

Thanks!

I can' help directly, sorry.

But I have Glocks 20sf, and 29sf (Gen 3). I don't load lead or SWC's for them. But I have never experienced anything like what you have going there.

Since I don't load for target, I have chosen to only load plated and jacketed bullets; and of a more conventional profile (FP or JHP) for the chambering.

If I were in your situation, I would try loading some more conventional and see if something changes. My hunch tells me it has something to do with the bullet profile.

You have ugly reloads that could never get a date with some cute ammo, like from the factory.

Taking steps to be more beautiful...
1) Bell the case mouth enough so the base of the bullet can get a proper introduction.
2) Seat the bullet.
3) To get that flared case mouth back under control for a date in the chamber, Lee factory crimp the loaded ammo.

I have had some problems with SWC in my Witness 10mm. The cases catch on the rim of the chamber. My cases look a lot like yours.

Next time you get a failure to eject, look and see what the new round is hitting. Is it hitting the case still in the chamber? Is the bullet hitting the case chambered and glancing off into something?

In Glock 30s and 21s the extracting case bumps the bullet of the top round in the magazine. If the bullets are SWCs the spent case can get knocked out of the extractor's hook, causing FTEs. This is a well known problem with Glock .45s. I tried over and over to get my my 30 and 21 to work with SWCs, but never could. Then I joined Glock Talk and found out that it is a common problem.
I haven't heard of it with 10mm. I never shot SWCs in my 20 or 29, and it's not a common bullet choice for that caliber, so it may not be an established problem, but that may be what's happening.

FTE could be failure to extract, or failure to eject, which is it?

Also, the shape of the SWC can make for problems as well. The H&G 68 shape works where others don't/won't.

The Hammerhead Theory works for me.
My first Sig P220 failed on SWCs that way. I don't ask the second to try.
First gen XD45 did, too but they tweaked the slide of the XDm .45 so it would handle funny American bullets.

I think the OP should change to round nose or truncated cone bullets.

I'm no expert on reloading the 10mm, but I WILL say that switching to Lee Factory Crimp dies, or a well made taper crimp die has fixed MANY of my feed problems with autopistol rounds.
