Someone on another website mentioned that Swat magazine did a review of a Saiga 12 shotgun with very favorable results.
Where can I get a copy of Swat magazine: books a million, barns and noble,..?

Anyone here have the lastest copy?

I wrote a review of the Saiga in SWAT about a year ago. I don't know if that is the one that you are thinking of. And yes, it was very favorable. I was very impressed with them.

In fact when EAA lost the importation rights, and RAAC became the new importer for Saiga, I signed up to be a distributor. I think they are that good.

The mention of this article at Saiga12 forums I think implied that the article is in the lastest edition of Swat. I may just go buy it to see it. It may even be your article republished a year later.

I haven't got the latest issue yet, but I doubt it is mine republished. Denny doesn't do stuff like that.

I have the March issue in front of me. There are no Saigas in it. The last article I remember being in there was the one Correia wrote.

Go to the website L-2 linked and look in the 2005 archives. You can download the whole issue as a PDF for a nominal fee.

To answer your other question, I always get my copy at Books A Million.

Quote from Saiga12 forums:

Just a quick mention as I'm off to work this morning...

On pages 40-44, SWAT Magazine does a breif review of the Saiga-12 (EAA model). Looking at the article, they look like they have a factory folding stock, but the author, Leroy Thompson, mentions that they had sent it off to a shotgun 'smith and had the barrel shortened to 18-1/2". The gun depicted has the raised rib sight. They must have started with a 22" barrel CCDN model, but I didn't know they came with a folder, Law Enforcement or not.

Anyway to the important meat of the story...

The author loved the S-12 and would have taken it over the Benelli, 870 or 11-87P, except for the increased cost of smithing, and the lack of magazine availability. He wants to see a retail price ready to go of $300-$500

I come away from the article not knowing anything more about the weapon, but it does confirm what we already know:

- We need a magazine source (in the works from the aftermarket)
- Saiga's should come in an optional Law Enforcement/Folding pistol grip form from the factory (but that's where Tony steps in )
- It is one bad a-- weapon that out performs more expensive competitiors.

This is the second review of the Saiga-12 that SWAT has done. Check it out and you'll catch my last comments.

First SWAT Magazine Saiga-12 Article

They first reviewed a 19" sporter stock version that got good reviews but comments about ease of switching load-types while underway where the main detractions stated.

This time around, they go for a pistol-grip version.

Ok after this post I guess that something is wrong here, he mentioned this as a new article as opposed to the first one.

In the current newstand issue [March] Leroy Thompson is discussing the various AK variants, so there are two possibilities.

1. Someone already has their April issue in the mail and is quoting from that.

2. Thompson reviewed it in a previous issue and I missed it.

At this point I'll have to defer to Denny for further information.

garrettwc guessed correctly.; Leroy takes a look at the Saiga in his Long Guns column in the April issue which some subscribers have already received. We occasionally take a second look at a firearm that has been covered as there are always new readers that may not have seen a previous article. (Don't worry, we won't rehash the 9mm vs. .45 ACP debate:D)
