Swapping upper receivers worth the trouble?

Hi, I own two ARs and I was thinking about swapping the upper receivers when I float one of the barrels. One is a flattop '20 and the other is a '16 with the carry handle. Would it be worth the trouble or pretty easy if I've already got the front sight & gas tube off?

Thanks in advance.

If you already have the front sight and gas tube off, the rest is a cinch! I take it you want to float the 20" and then marry it to the flattop upper? If that is the route you are considering, I say that I personally can't think of a better combination.

I was going to float the '20 and move the flattop to the '16 so I can stop using that funny little forward mount with the aimpoint.

And I wish more people made carry-handle specific scopes. Either it's $40 for a leapers or a thousand for an ACOG with none in between.

I think you'll find that you would like the optics on the flattop better than on the carry handle for the 20" config. For true varmint or long-range style shooting, you would be better off mounting said optics to the flattop rather than the carry handle. Heck, since you already have the upper mostly disassembled, why not buy another stripped flattop upper? From Model1Sales it is only a hundred bucks. I think in the long run you would be much happier this way.
