SW99? Wather high-mags fit?

I have seen it asked here before. Someone says they have ordered a WatherP99 to finally answere the question and then we never hear from them. I hope that doesn't mean it blew up in their face!

I asked qa tech at S&W. They said they had loading problems (Jamming??). I was wondering if they were just told to say this or if anyone else has tried the P99 in the SW99. I am interested in 9mm results.

Also I was forwarned by some that I souldn't carry the High Cap. and shoot someone as this would target me as an extremest similiar too using custom loads in a PP gun.

Anyone know if the P99 mags will fit in the SW99-9?

I bought two ten round p99 mags for my sw99 9mm and they work perfect. The high cap mags should work as well. If the 10 rounders work there is no reason why the high caps shouldn't work. I should have bought the 10 round smith mags because they were 10 bucks cheaper but the walthers were the only in stock. Anything s&w tells you about another guys product is subject to disbelief. I have one high cap p99 mag on the way from ky imports as we speak. 100 bucks. ouch. For four mags I could buy another pistol. Son of a .....
Hope this helps

SW says the mag springs are different between the P9940 and SW9940 cuzz the slide stop springs on the frames are different. They also say that may change (the Walther will match the S&W).

Don't know about the 9mm; from what I've seen in my own hands, and have heard from others, they both work "better" in 9mm than they do in 40. The 40 is good enough.

Gunpowder,
I'm probably the one you remembered posting this question before (I've done it several times). I received various opinions, but no response from anyone who had actually tried it. Anyway, I just picked up an SW99 9mm yesterday, and I have several Walther high-cap mags, so I will try it next time I go shooting and post the results. I'm 95% confident they will work (they fit fine and appear identical in every significant respect).

DougB,
Sounds good. Let me know how it works out. Buying a SW99-9 was pretty guttsy with the current political climate. Let me know how the high cap. works out.

I am awaiting a holster from Alessi. It should be in next week. One word of caution. I was advised shooting in self defense with a Walther high capasity mag in a SW99 could mark you as a extremest! Something to think about.

I tried out my SW99 today with the Walther high-cap magazines. They worked fine. I had one stovepipe out of about 3 magazines full. I don't think it had anything to do with the magazine. The pistol did shoot very low and to the left however (with 115 grain FMJ). Also, I noticed when I got the gun that the slide was pretty loose (you feel it go back and forth if you shake the frame from side to side). I've heard this may be a common problem that S&W can fix, so I'm going to contact them. But the Walther high-caps seem to work fine.

DougB,
Sounds good. I just got my SW99-9 back from S&W. It shot low by about 3" at 15 yards. They replaced the slide. The slide is much tighter now.

Try the lowest number front sight to see if that helps. If not calll them and they will send shipping instructions. Mine went out on a Thursday and was delivered back on the next Thursday!

I tried to contact the repair Dept. afterwards to discuss the repair but they said they don't repair them. SIGMA Business Repairmen does. The new slide was less than desirable with areas of red dust (RUST?) on the slide. I haven't cleaned it yet but it appears to be easily wiped off. It does shoot higher but I haven't tried it much to determine if I want to send it back. They said if I wasn't happy they would be glad to look at it again.

Make sure to send two targets with ten rounds in each and the ammo type and yardage on it. that will help them. They sent a target back showing that it shot straight.

Good Luck!
