I just learned how to use a digital camara. This is my first post, and I chose my new 625jm. I think the photo would have been better if I had loaded it...

Hey Jon

I get the same results when shooting my guns laying flat. I'm working on it though...
The front light is from a large overhead, and the back light is from a window. The gun looks new, but I have over 100 rounds through it...
Another thing you could work on is the image software that you're using. Make sure it's highend Adobe, or macromedia. With good software you can edit out the glare areas, soften them up... :)

Good luck...

Gun photos

I am not sure what kind of lighting you guys are shooting for (pun intended  )... but if you're not going for special effects, for standard photos, use plenty of diffuse light.... which basically means you want failry soft light coming from all directions to avoid strong shadows and glaring reflections - scattered light is what you want. Some ways you can get diffuse light are:

- Shoot during daytime with curtains all open, and *add* room lights
- Use multiple light sources
- Don't position light too close
- No bare bulbs that within a line of sight to subject
- Bounce light off a white ceiling or wall first to scatter it
- Filter and scatter light through a diffuser - soft sheet of transluscent white something - plastic, material...
- If you shoot outdoors, will get best results on a day with some cloud cover, or shooting with everything (camera and subject) in shade - again, you're using diffusion

Hope this helps - keep the photos coming! :D

I can never put mine down long enough to take a picture.
