Sw K38

I hope the experts chime in but I would say, "no." The older Smith and Wessons were denominated by names such as Military & Police, 357 Magnum, Highway Patrolman, 44 Magnum; Later, the same guns became the Model 10, 27, 28, and 29, respectively. The K38 Masterpiece was the old name for what became the Model 14. Same same, imho.

THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE.

A K38 IS A K38 WHETHER IT'S A 6" OR A 4" PISTOL. THE " MASTERPIECE " NAME IS A DANDY THOUGH, HUH!!??

Like TERRY says.

The K-38 was born as the Masterpiece. And it remains so.
Target guns on target frames with the Masterpiece designation...
K-22...became the Model 17
K-32...became the Model 16
K-38...became the Model 14, which begat the Model 15; Combat Masterpiece.

as stated already the masterpiece series was comprised of the k-22, k-32 and k-38...which became the m-17, m-16 and m-14. you had a choice of 6" or 8.375" barrels. the weight and balance or the guns were matched by varying the sight ribs. they also have adjustable trigger stops built into the frame

the combat masterpiece became the m-15 and was available with the 4" and 2.5" barrel

You may want to grab the current, "Gun Digest" and read all about S&W .38 target revolvers, inc. pre-war models. VERY informative. I learned that there are differences between the M14 and the M15 other than barrel length, and I thought I knew it all...
