SW 629mg

After buying my 629mg I immediately put on wood checkered grips. The first time I fired this revolver, I put 50 rounds of .44 Mag, whatever grain, and left allot of the skin on the palm of my shootin hand in between those checkers...

I'm trying again tomorrow with a new set of Eagle Heritage Smooth grips. I have a feeling I have the right grips on the right gun this time...Oh, I hate rubber grips... ;)

Nice "hand cannon" Bullrock! Did you ever look into getting those shooting gloves we talked about a few months ago? Or do you already have a pair? They might help a little with the recoil.....Norm.

Bullrock:

Mighty nice looking "Bazooka"(Just kidding about the "Bazooka" part!)! I must say, that I'm going to have to start running, to enable me to keep up with you, in finding such great looking revolvers! I just love your smooth(Square butt)Eagle grips! Your 629 looks every bit as good as my recently purchased 686-3! :)

Bull I know you hate rubber, but if you put those Hogue grips they make for the X frame on that thing you would be amazed at the reduction of carpel tunnell. I was shooting max 44 out of a 4 inch mountain gun and could,nt believe how accurate you can become when you know it isn,t gonna hurt. :D

Just returned home from the range. I shouldn't have gone. Wasn't feeling well. Didn't shoot well. But, those grips are fantastic on that model gun. A little tough to get hold of at first, but they turn well in the hand without taking my skin with them.

I put 3, 20 round boxes of Hornady .44 Mag., 200 gr. jhp/xtp through my 629. What a blast! Then I switched over to Winchester .44Spl 200gr. Silvertip hp. I think I'm still too young for the rockin chair.

One guy watching me shoot came over during a time out and told me I could reduce the muzzel flip by going to a ported .44 Mag. I told him I liked the muzzel pulling my arm off over my head and only wussies used ported revolvers... ;) No offense to any wussies on TFL... :D

I have never cared for checkered stocks on a revolver. A good fitting smooth wood stock will allow you to handle all the revolver can give you. The trick is that they have to be a good fit.
As for ported barrels, if you have to have ports to control the handgun then it's time to step down a caliber or two.
