SW 4506 vs SIG P220

Sig, hands down. Fits better, feels better, shoots straighter, eats everything, lasts longer, and easier to tune, if you're into that sorta thing. Add a set of Hogue grips, and it's near perfect!
And in that price range, it's only a matter of degress, all politics aside. Sig has a better service department, too.
I prefer the Sig, and I have carried and used Sigs, Glocks, and Smiths.

The most important thing is to get what fits your hand best, and has a grip size/trigger pull legnth and spacing that you're comfortable with.

I like the P220 better because it's slimmer and lighter than the 4506. They are both great guns, but that Smith will get heavy very quickly. BTW, I had a 4516 that was just as accurate as a friends' full size Wilson. Of course, we're not as accurate as the guns, but we try.

thequickad; I've owned both. Price? I've seen "well" used P-220's for $550.00. I bought a 4506 in excellent condition (not a scratch on it) with four factory mags for $400.00. Accuracy? A tossup. It could go either way depending on the shooter. Handling? P-220 30 oz., 4506 is 40 oz. The 4506 is a heavy, durable (all stainless steel), very reliable, lower felt recoil (40 oz.), nice looking, a nice "static" gun (home, car, truck, woods). The P-220 is fairly lightweight, not so durable (bluing is crap for such an expensive gun), acceptable recoil for a 30 oz. gun, looks are in the eye of the beholder, very, very reliable, more packable than the 4506. One more thing- one more round in the 4506. For a "static" gun I'd go with the 4506. For a packable gun I'd go with the P-220. Good Luck, j.s.

Greetings, Well you know my choice before I
even write it; that is, if you know anything
about me at all? Yes, that's right- the Sig
220 hands down. That's my puppy; she'll bark
and bite with all kind's of ammo; without even a hiccup!!! :)

Got both, prefer the Sig.

For me, the Sig is the more accurate of the two. If weight matters, then the Sig is less tiresome to wear on an 8-10 hour shift. S&W initally had the advantage of higher capacity magazines, but now both guns feature 8 round mags. Both guns are ambidextrious. The S&W is considerably larger (longer slide, taller frame) than the Sig.

Also, for some reason I've yet to determine, the S&W, when fired from the hip (those close LE style 1 yd from the hip shot), generates more muzzle blast than the Sig.
