SW 1917 Front Sight

I have been trying to find one of the new SW Mountain Guns here is So Cal with no luck.

I have been thinking about giving up and just getting a shooter grade SW 1917 and having the barrel shortened to 4 inches, and having a new front sight fitter as well opening up and "sqauring" off ther rear sight notch.

What should work like that cost? How difficult would it be?

Byrdman, I can't speak for all smiths but in my shop the job would run you about $100 depending on whether or not you used the original front sight and shipping costs. It isn't that difficult a project if you have the right equipment. George

Byrdman,
It sounds like you are looking for a S&W 625? Or 629??? Go to www.lewhorton.com. They might have what you are looking for. Of course, you should hurry, as I don't know if it will be available in CA after first of year. Lew Horton does have a 629 Mountain Gun in .44 Mag for $709 on their website.
