Anyone have an opinion on the SW 1076 or 1066? Price, value etc... thinking of adding one to my Glock 29.

I would'nt bother. It's a Smith.
Just stick with your Glock!!! :)

Lots of good deals on 1076's around right now. Lots of law enforcement trade ins. You should find them for around $300.00 or so.

Having said that,I would still support who is supporting us--Beretta,Glock, and Browning.

Like to point out here that if he gets a Smith 1066 or 1076, it will have to be a USED one as Smith no longer makes them...which means it makes very little sense not to buy it. Smith already had their money from the gun a LONG time ago...the only person he would be hurting would be the gunshop that had the used gun in inventory. What? Do you expect gun dealers not to accept USED Smiths in trade in?
Get real.
Don't buy any new Smiths, tell your dealers you won't be buying any, they won't order any new ones, then you hurt Smith.

I purchased one recently (Police trade-in), the 1076 and it is a very nice gun as far as Smith autos go. It all depends on what you want, most of the defensive loads are loaded right around FBI spec (180grain bullet at 950fps) so felt recoil and muzzle flip aren't that big of a deal. Even with Silvertips for me the felt recoil isn't bad, muzzle flip is where I really see the difference.

I say get one if you want it. They aren't made anymore and were made before S&W's idiotic capitulation to the government. Like Rikwriter said, are you going to boycott a dealer because they sell used Smith's? I wouldn't.

Lou Alessi makes holsters for the 1076 if you get one.

Last I knew Lew Horton had some 1076's for just under 300 with extra mags for 15 dollars. That would be a good way to go....

ak9, did you bother to read the rest of the thread? THERE ARE NO NEW ONES. THEY STOPPED MAKING THEM YEARS AGO.
Good Lord.

If you're looking to buy one, you might hold out for a while. The Kentucky State police carries the 10mm S&W and I hear they're getting re4ady to change over to Glocks...so there will be a lot of these guns floating around prety soon. The KSP models are DAO if that's what you're looking for!

Just saw a 1066 police trade at my dealer tonight. Night sights and Hogues for $415. Does not seem like a bad deal. I had an original 1006 when they first appeared. I think it and the Glocks are the only ones that will stand up to the full bore ammo over time. :)

What I like about the 1066 and 1076 is that they were designed for the 10mm as opposed to the 1911 which was made to work in 10mm...
